Abysmal Dawn – Nightmare Frontier (Review)

Abysmal Dawn - Nightmare FrontierAbysmal Dawn are a death metal band from the US and this is their latest EP.

Abysmal Dawn are always worth checking out, in my humble opinion. Their brand of modern death metal is heavyweight and satisfying, and their latest EP offers 19 minutes of meaty aggression to satisfy fans of the style. Continue reading “Abysmal Dawn – Nightmare Frontier (Review)”

Tine – Mergae Maris Profundi (Review)

Tine - Mergae Maris ProfundiThis is the second album from US solo symphonic black/death metal act Tine.

Tine’s debut album – The Forest Dreams of Black – was one that I enjoyed a great deal, and I can’t quite believe that it came out seven years ago. I’m pleased to say that we now have a new album on the horizon – Mergae Maris Profundi – which provides us with 54 minutes of blackened death metal to hungrily consume. Label Roundup: Dying Victims Productions – Tension, Tangent, & Vicious Knights (Reviews)

Wonderbox Metal gets sent a lot of new music, (which is great), but there’s no way that everything can get covered unfortunately, (which is not so great). This new column hopes to redress this balance, if only slightly, by taking a look at a handful of releases that a record label has recently sent out that might have otherwise slipped through the cracks.

Have you heard of Dying Victims Productions? They deal mostly with traditional heavy metal, and the label is home to a number of great bands and great albums, (Witchseeker are just one such example). The below three releases all see the light of day on January 28th 2022, so I thought it’s a great to catch up with some of the label’s latest output. Abyssus – Death Revival (Review)

Abyssus - Death RevivalThis is the second album from Abyssus, a Greek death metal band.

I’ve been an avid follower of Abyssus’ work for many years, (see here, here, here, here, and here), and their output never fails to put a smile on my face. Which is why it’s great to have a new album from the band. Seven tracks, 33 minutes; Abyssus bring their old-school death metal sound to the masses once more, and it’s damn good fun. Aethereus – Leiden (Review)

Aethereus - LeidenAethereus are a death metal band from the US and this is their second album.

Leiden is a 55-minute death metal monstrosity that blends technical, progressive, and dissonant elements together into a very impressive package. The band’s Facebook page describes them as for fans of Obscura, Beyond Creation, and Gorguts, and that’s a good starting place from which to approach Leiden. Ohio Slamboys – Chop x Drill x Kill (Review)

Ohio Slamboys - Chop x Drill x KillThis is the second album from Ohio Slamboys, a brutal death metal band from France.

The first Ohio Slamboys album – Zombie Killing Process – was a fun frolic into zombie-infested territories, and Chop x Drill x Kill carries on this theme. Across 32 minutes the band chop, kill, and drill, (ahem), their way through meaty brutal death metal slam with the enthusiasm of people who really love their grisly work. Continue reading “Ohio Slamboys – Chop x Drill x Kill (Review)”

Descent – Order of Chaos (Review)

Descent - Order of ChaosDescent are an Australian death metal act and this is their second album.

Order of Chaos offers a tight 30 minutes of punishing death metal. Smashing together HM-2-influenced death metal with ferocious grindcore and caustic punk, Descent’s second album is a vicious beast. Continue reading “Descent – Order of Chaos (Review)”

Fit for an Autopsy – Oh What the Future Holds (Review)

Fit for an Autopsy - Oh What the Future HoldsFit for an Autopsy are a deathcore band from the US and this is their sixth album.

Both 2017’s The Great Collapse and 2019’s The Sea of Tragic Beasts demonstrated Fit for an Autopsy‘s superiority when it comes to deathcore. The band are just doing better things with the style than most other ostensibly similar bands out there. With that in mind, expectations were high for Oh What the Future Holds. Enterprise Earth – The Chosen (Review)

Enterprise Earth - The ChosenThis is the fourth album from US metal/deathcore band Enterprise Earth.

Enterprise Earth walk a line between modern death metal, deathcore, and metalcore, and on The Chosen the band deliver a whopping 71 minutes of meaty material for listeners to get their teeth into. Continue reading “Enterprise Earth – The Chosen (Review)”

Worm Shepherd – Ritual Hymns (Review)

Worm Shepherd - Ritual HymnsWorm Shepherd are a blackened deathcore band and this is their second album.

It’s been less than a year since 2021’s In the Wake of Sol, but here we are already with another Worm Shepherd album. Not that I’m complaining, as that album was a solid slab of blackened atmosphere and crushing deathcore heaviness. Continue reading “Worm Shepherd – Ritual Hymns (Review)”
