This is the second album from US solo symphonic black/death metal act Tine.
Tine’s debut album – The Forest Dreams of Black – was one that I enjoyed a great deal, and I can’t quite believe that it came out seven years ago. Wonderbox Metal gets sent a lot of new music, (which is great), but there’s no way that everything can get covered unfortunately, (which is not so great). This new column hopes to redress this balance, if only slightly, by taking a look at a handful of releases that a record label has recently sent out that might have otherwise slipped through the cracks.
Have you heard of Dying Victims Productions? They deal mostly with traditional heavy metal, and the label is home to a number of great bands and great albums, (Witchseeker are just one such example). I’ve been an avid follower of Abyssus’ work for many years, (see here, here, here, here, and here), and their output never fails to put a smile on my face. Aethereus are a death metal band from the US and this is their second album.
Leiden is a 55-minute death metal monstrosity that blends technical, progressive, and dissonant elements together into a very impressive package. The band’s Facebook page describes them as for fans of Obscura, Beyond Creation, and Gorguts, and that’s a good starting place from which to approach Leiden. This is the second album from Ohio Slamboys, a brutal death metal band from France.
The first Ohio Slamboys album – Zombie Killing Process – was a fun frolic into zombie-infested territories, and Chop x Drill x Kill carries on this theme. Across 32 minutes the band chop, kill, and drill, (ahem), their way through meaty brutal death metal slam with the enthusiasm of people who really love their grisly work. Fit for an Autopsy are a deathcore band from the US and this is their sixth album.
Both 2017’s The Great Collapse and 2019’s The Sea of Tragic Beasts demonstrated Fit for an Autopsy‘s superiority when it comes to deathcore. The band are just doing better things with the style than most other ostensibly similar bands out there. With that in mind, expectations were high for Oh What the Future Holds.
