Altars Ablaze – Life Desecration (Review)

Altars Ablaze - Life DesecrationAltars Ablaze are a blackened death metal band from Czechia and this is their debut album.

Holy crap, now this is the stuff! 31 minutes of blistering blackened death metal that takes no prisoners and is utterly merciless. Life Desecration is pure evil and sounds absolutely great. Featuring current and ex-members of Brutally Deceased and Heaving Earth, Altars Ablaze know what they’re doing with their extreme metal. Continue reading “Altars Ablaze – Life Desecration (Review)”

Stabbing – Extirpated Mortal Process (Review)

Stabbing - Extirpated Mortal ProcessThis is the debut album from US death metallers Stabbing.

Here we have something particularly brutal. Stabbing play death metal with lashings of cruelty and bloody punishment. Across 33 minutes Extirpated Mortal Process lays waste with its gruesome brutality. Continue reading “Stabbing – Extirpated Mortal Process (Review)”

Dystopia A.D. – Doomsday Psalm (Review)

Dystopia A.D. - Doomsday PsalmDystopia A.D. are a death metal band from the US and this is their second album.

Dystopia A.D. play a progressive/melodic form of death metal that’s ripe with creative flourishes and potent melodies. The band combine meaty brutality, sharp aggressive speed, and choice riffs, with piercing melodies, rich atmosphere, and progressive Continue reading “Dystopia A.D. – Doomsday Psalm (Review)”

Veilburner – VLBRNR (Review)

Veilburner - VLBRNRVeilburner are a black/death metal band from the US and this is their sixth album.

I last reviewed Veilburner back in 2016 with their third album The Obscene Rite, so it’s about time that I did another one of their releases the justice it deserves by taking a closer look at their new material on VLBRNR. Continue reading “Veilburner – VLBRNR (Review)”

Jade – The Pacification of Death (Review)

Jade - The Pacification of DeathThis is the debut album from international death metal band Jade.

I’ve loosely called this death metal in the introductory sentence above, but  The Pacification of Death provides more than this. I suppose blackened atmospheric death metal is more accurate; Jade excel in crafting music that combines 80s/90s death/doom and mood-heavy black metal, resulting in a 40-minute album that is more notable than most. Tchornobog/Abyssal – Split (Review)

Tchornobog Abyssal - SplitThis is a split release between US black/doom solo act Tchornobog and UK black/death band Abyssal.

It’s been five long years since Tchornobog’s 2017 self-titled monster, which I really, really liked. Well, the artist has now returned, alongside a host of collaborators, with a single 24-minute track called The Vomiting Choir. Continue reading “Tchornobog/Abyssal – Split (Review)”

Desecrate the Faith – III (Review)

Desecrate the Faith - IIIThis is the third album from US death metallers Desecrate the Faith.

Despite being on the longer side for brutal death metal, I really enjoyed 2017’s Unholy Infestation, so it’s great to finally have some new material from this savage band. III is a merciless beast that spends 49 minutes defiling and desecrating everything sacred, via ten tracks of skull-shattering brutal death metal. Continue reading “Desecrate the Faith – III (Review)”

Eskhaton – Horracle (Review)

Eskhaton - HorracleThis is the latest EP from Australian death metallers Eskhaton.

2014’s Worship Death and 2018’s Omegalitheous were both howling, snarling slabs of blackened death metal. Bestial and savage, Horracle returns with 29 minutes of chaotic violence for listeners to become mauled by. Continue reading “Eskhaton – Horracle (Review)”

Bonecarver – Carnage Funeral (Review)

Bonecarver - Carnage FuneralBonecarver are a Spanish deathcore band and this is their second album.

After the thoroughly brutal Evil from only last year, Bonecarver are back already with Carnage Funeral, but they’re not the same band that we met only recently. This 40-minute record showcases the band as they develop their sound further; Carnage Funeral is Bonecarver’s next evolutionary step. Continue reading “Bonecarver – Carnage Funeral (Review)”

Dysgnostic – Scar Echoes (Review)

Dysgnostic - Scar EchoesDysgnostic are a Danish death metal band and this is their debut album.

Do you remember the band Defilementory who released the 2014 album The Dismal Ascension? The question is relevant because Dysgnostic are Defilementory’s reincarnation. Apparently the band have changed their name to indicate a fresh start, but whatever the reason, Dysgnostic are now here, and they mean business. Continue reading “Dysgnostic – Scar Echoes (Review)”
