This is the second album from Ὁπλίτης (otherwise known as Hoplites), a one-man post-black metal band from China.
Well this is unexpected. Having only unleashed the stunning Ψευδομένη on an unsuspecting world in January, we now get the equally unexpected Τρωθησομένη – 38 minutes of tasty new material from the very talented, (and apparently very prolific), artist behind Ὁπλίτης, (as well as Vitriolic Sage). Continue reading “Ὁπλίτης (Hoplites) – Τρωθησομένη (Review)”
This is the debut album from Ὁπλίτης (otherwise known as Hoplites), a one-man post-black metal band from China.
Ψευδομένη contains 38 minutes of experimental avant-garde black metal. The artist behind Ὁπλίτης has combined a lot of different styles and influences into this record. Imagine Blut Aus Nord, Jute Gyte, and Deathspell Omega crossed with Frontierer, Converge, and Sectioned, along with a touch of Ephel Duath and Oranssi Pazuzu, and you’ll have a rough idea of what you’ll encounter here. Continue reading “Ὁπλίτης (Hoplites) – Ψευδομένη (Review)”
Sunflo’er are a hardcore band from the US and this is their third album.
On All These Darlings and Now Me Sunflo’er combine mathcore and post-hardcore into a harsh-yet-catchy 27 minutes. Continue reading “Sunflo’er – All These Darlings and Now Me (Review)”
This is the second album from US grindcore band Knoll.
Metempiric is a 34-minute shot of feral adrenaline. It is rare I come across grindcore these days, and even rarer for it to be good. It’s a great style when done right, and a lazy, boring one when not. Suffice to say, Metempiric is one of the best grind releases I’ve heard in what seems like forever. Continue reading “Knoll – Metempiric (Review)”
This is the latest release from Miserable Failure, (or MSRBLFLR), a French death metal/grindcore band.
This enigmatic act have been quiet since 2017’s Alone, (at least with this project), but now they’re back with the beautifully adorned Death March. Containing just one 22-minute track, (made up of three named movements), this is a welcome return from this talented group. Continue reading “Miserable Failure – Death March (Review)”
This is the second album from Vein.fm, a metal band from the US.
Vein.fm are clearly a band with a lot of influences, and across the 32 minutes of material on This World Is Going to Ruin You, they wield these influences like weapons. Flourishing elements of hardcore, mathcore, metalcore, industrial, and nu-metal into a Continue reading “Vein.fm – This World Is Going to Ruin You (Review)”
This is the debut album from US technical metal band Sentinels.
Collapse by Design features 47 minutes of contemporary heaviness. The band mix elements of metalcore, mathcore, progressive metal, djent, and technical metal, and do so really rather well. Alongside this they also play around with melodic and Continue reading “Sentinels – Collapse by Design (Review)”
This is the fifth album from US grindcore band Full of Hell.
Full of Hell have always impressed. Both 2017’s Trumpeting Ecstasy and 2019’s Weeping Choir did exactly that, and now they have returned with 21 minutes of new material. So, what dark delights does Garden of Burning Apparitions bring us? Continue reading “Full of Hell – Garden of Burning Apparitions (Review)”
