In my humble opinion Cloud Rat are one of the most forward-thinking, talented, and innovative grindcore bands out there, although simply labelling them grindcore is misleading and constricting, as their work frequently features so much more than your standard grindcore fare. This is the debut album from Shock Narcotic, a grindcore band from the US.

Featuring current and ex-members of bands such as The Dillinger Escape Plan, Child Bite, and The Black Dahlia Murder, this is 19 minutes of nasty grindcore mixed with elements of chaotic hardcore and jagged metal. Brain Bleed – Automated Eradication (Review)

Brain Bleed are a deathgrind band from the US and this is their debut album.

Savage, that’s the word. Or, at least one of them. Brain Bleed are savage. They’re also brutal, belligerent, harsh, and many other similar words. Sarinvomit/Eggs of Gomorrh – Encomium of Depraved Instincts – Split (Review)

Sarinvomit are from Turkey and Eggs of Gomorrh are from Switzerland. Both play variants of black metal, and have teamed up for this split release.

Sarinvomit and Eggs of Gomorrh are both rooted in black metal, only mutated and ugly versions of it. This split lasts a hideous 31 minutes, and all eight tracks are worth devouring hungrily, despite how disgusting they are. Disuse – Machine-Gun Kelly (Review)

Disuse are a grindcore band from the Netherlands and this is their latest EP.

Immortal Bird – Thrive on Neglect (Review)

Immortal Bird are a blackened deathgrind band from the US. This is their second album.

Finally we have the follow up to 2015’s Empress/Abscess, which was one of the more notable releases of that year for me. Ahh, it’s nice to hear the band’s atypical intensity back. Keitzer – Where the Light Ends (Review)

Keitzer are a German death metal/grindcore band and this is their seventh album.

Keitzer’s 2014 album The Last Defence was a particular favourite of mine, with its energetic and well-delivered deathgrind really hitting the spot. The follow up – 2016’s Ascension – was more of a death metal affair, and although I do prefer The Last Defence, it was still a solid and enjoyable record.
