White Ward – False Light (Review)

White Ward - False LightThis is the third album from Ukrainian post-black metalers White Ward.

2016’s Futility Report was a fine album, but when 2019’s Love Exchange Failure came along it really made its mark on the extreme metal landscape. Last year’s Debemur Morti teased us some new material, but now here’s the main event. So what does False Light hold for us? Continue reading “White Ward – False Light (Review)”

Deathwhite – Grey Everlasting (Review)

Deathwhite - Grey EverlastingDeathwhite are a melodic metal band from the US and this is their third album.

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed witnessing Deathwhite’s continued development, (check out Ethereal, Solitary Martyr, For a Black Tomorrow, and Grave Image), so the appearance of Grey Everlasting is very welcome. On their latest release Deathwhite spend 48 minutes doing what they do best, only better than they ever have done it before. Continue reading “Deathwhite – Grey Everlasting (Review)”

Artificial Brain – Artificial Brain (Review)

Artificial Brain - Artificial BrainThis is the third album from US technical death metal band Artificial Brain.

The follow up to 2017’s very well-received Infrared HorizonArtificial Brain contains 46 minutes of new material, and is brought to us from current and ex-members of bands such as Aeviterne, Afterbirth, Buckshot Facelift, Coma Cluster VoidGrey Skies Fallen, and Revocation. Origin – Chaosmos (Review)

Origin - ChaosmosThis is the eighth album from US death metallers Origin.

It seems like Unparalleled Existence only came out a couple of years ago, but it was actually 2017. Time certainly flies. Still, at least Origin have now returned, bringing us the 46-minute beast that is Chaosmos. Continue reading “Origin – Chaosmos (Review)”

Decapitated – Cancer Culture (Review)

Decapitated - Cancer CultureDecapitated are a Polish death metal band and this is their eighth album.

This is the follow up to 2017’s Anticult, and offers 37 minutes of heaviness that is ridiculously enjoyable. I expected a new Decapitated release to be good, but I was not ready for just how good Cancer Culture turned out to be. Continue reading “Decapitated – Cancer Culture (Review)”

Septicflesh – Modern Primitive (Review)

Septicflesh - Modern PrimitiveSepticflesh, (Septic Flesh?), are a symphonic death metal band from Greece and this is their eleventh album.

Following on from 2017’s Codex OmegaModern Primitives is another devastatingly effective slab of dark grandeur from the band. Across 39 minutes Septicflesh once again demonstrate that very few bands can compete with them when it comes to Continue reading “Septicflesh – Modern Primitive (Review)”

Meshuggah – Immutable (Review)

Meshuggah - ImmutableMeshuggah are a legendary Swedish progressive/extreme metal band and this is their ninth album.

I really enjoyed Meshuggah’s last record, (2016’s The Violent Sleep of Reason), and it grew on me more and more over time. six years later the band have returned with a colossal 69-minute slab of their inimitable, (yet frequently badly imitated), djent-based progressive metal. Continue reading “Meshuggah – Immutable (Review)”

Hath – All That Was Promised (Review)

Hath - All That Was PromisedHath are a progressive blackened death metal band from the US, and this is their second album.

Allegaeon – Damnum (Review)

Allegaeon - DamnumAllegaeon are a death metal band from the US and this is their sixth album.

There’s something about Allegaeon’s music that’s very satisfying and moreish. The band have discovered a blending of technicality, progressive flourish, and melodic might that simply works, and works well. Both 2016’s Proponent for Sentience and 2019’s Apoptosis were both great records, ably showcasing Allegaeon’s style of music. Now, in 2022, what does Damnum hold for us? Continue reading “Allegaeon – Damnum (Review)”
