Judicator – Concord (Review)

Judicator - ConcordThis is the seventh album from US power metallers Judicator.

2020’s Let There Be Nothing was a good album, but 2022’s The Majesty of Decay was a revelation. It was my favourite album from that year, and is simply a fantastic record. It’s rare for lightning to strike twice though, so I tried to go into the 50-minute Concord with expectations tempered, especially as Judicator now have a largely new lineup and a less-personally themed album. Tómarúm – Beyond Obsidian Euphoria (Review)

Tómarúm - Beyond Obsidian EuphoriaThis is the second album from US black/death metal band Tómarúm.

2022’s Ash in Realms of Stone Icons was a one of the best of the year, so anticipation has been high for the new one from Tómarúm. Will Beyond Obsidian Euphoria‘s 69 minutes have the same impact as its predecessor? Continue reading “Tómarúm – Beyond Obsidian Euphoria (Review)”

Verheerer – Urgewalt (Review)

Verheerer - UrgewaltVerheerer are a German black metal band and this is their third album.

I enjoyed 2018’s Maltrér, as well as its 2019 follow up Monolith. In fact, I thought I had reviewed the latter too, but apparently not. Well, it’s been six years, and now we have the 52-minute Urgewalt, and I’m not going to miss writing about this little gem. Continue reading “Verheerer – Urgewalt (Review)”

Wrath of Logarius – Crown of Mortis (Review)

Wrath of Logarius - Crown of MortisThis is the debut album from US black metallers Wrath of Logarius.

Crown of Mortis contains 37 minutes of modern black metal, incorporating elements of death metal to make a highly compelling whole. Continue reading “Wrath of Logarius – Crown of Mortis (Review)”

Allegaeon – The Ossuary Lens (Review)

Allegaeon - The Ossuary LensThis is the seventh album from US death metallers Allegaeon.

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed all of the Allegaeon albums I’ve heard, (2016’s Proponent for Sentience, 2019’s Apoptosis, and 2022’s Damnum), and each has been better than the last. Now Allegaeon are back with the 46-minute The Ossuary Lens, (their shortest album so far), and have changed singer, with their their original vocalist returning to the fold. Let’s see what they have to offer us this time around. Continue reading “Allegaeon – The Ossuary Lens (Review)”

Bleed from Within – Zenith (Review)

Bleed from Within - ZenithThis is the seventh album from UK metal band Bleed from Within.

Despite being aware of Bleed from Within since they began – and I even saw them live I think many, many, many years ago in a support slot somewhere – I had never actually heard them properly before now. Zenith was a good opportunity to change this and see what I’ve been missing out on. Well, what do Bleed from Within have to offer? Continue reading “Bleed from Within – Zenith (Review)”

Deafheaven – Lonely People with Power (Review)

Deafheaven - Lonely People with PowerThis is the sixth album from US post-black metal/blackgaze band Deafheaven.

Lonely People with Power contains 62 minutes of music, and finds Deafhaven in masterful form. If you’re familiar with Deafheaven at all, as you hopefully are, this new record is essentially a culmination of everything they have done so far, resulting in an album that’s well-rounded, affecting, and quite brilliant. Continue reading “Deafheaven – Lonely People with Power (Review)”

Mizmor & Hell – Alluvion (Review)

Mizmor & Hell - AlluvionThis is a collaboration between Mizmor and Hell, both solo doom bands from the US.

Alluvion is a 40-minute blackened doom album that consists of four tracks, (two songs). It fuses the talents of both artists into a expressive whole that’s impressively wrought. Mizmor and Hell have produced a strong record, as you would hope given their past work. Continue reading “Mizmor & Hell – Alluvion (Review)”

Ritual Ascension – Profanation of the Adamic Covenant (Review)

Ritual Ascension - Profanation of the Adamic CovenantThis is the debut album from US death/doom metallers Ritual Ascension.

Profanation of the Adamic Covenant contains five tracks that spread out over 48 minutes like a virulent plague. Brought to us by members of Aberration, Feral Light, Suffering Hour, and Void Rot, Ritual Ascension deliver unto us unworthy listeners a monstrously abyssal amalgamation of death and doom metal. Continue reading “Ritual Ascension – Profanation of the Adamic Covenant (Review)”

Teitanblood – From the Visceral Abyss (Review)

Teitanblood - From the Visceral AbyssThis is the fourth album from Spanish black/death metal band Teitanblood.

From the Visceral Abyss is a 52-minute tornado of violence and destruction. Teitanblood don’t mess around, and this is a punishing record of black/death metal barbarity that’s unexpectedly moreish. Continue reading “Teitanblood – From the Visceral Abyss (Review)”
