On High Anxiety Oozing Wound fuse thrash and punk with some occasional elements of sludge and noise rock into 34 minutes of mayhem and infectious guitars. Continue reading “Oozing Wound – High Anxiety (Review)”

Refusal – Epitome of Void (Review)

Refusal - Epitome of VoidRefusal are a Finnish death metal band and this is their second album.

Here we have 32 minutes of old-school death metal mixed with elements of grind and hardcore. It’s nasty, savage, and packs a mean punch. Entombed and Napalm Death are your reference points here, along with bands like Rotten Sound, Crawl, and Lik. Continue reading “Refusal – Epitome of Void (Review)”

Cripple Bastards – La Fine Cresce da Dentro (Review)

Cripple Bastards - La Fine Cresce da DentroCripple Bastards are an Italian grindcore band and this is their seventh album.

2014’s Nero in Metastasi was not only a top quality grindcore release, but one that I’ve frequently returned to over the years. Continue reading “Cripple Bastards – La Fine Cresce da Dentro (Review)”

Minors – Abject Bodies (Review)

Minors - Abject BodiesMinors are a hardcore/sludge band from Canada. This is their second album.

It only seems like yesterday that 2017’s Atrophy was unleashed on an unsuspecting world, providing those in the know with a visceral, harsh hit of aggressive hardcore/sludge that left a firm mark. Well, Minors are now back with another 30 minutes of material that sees them in fine form once more. Continue reading “Minors – Abject Bodies (Review)”

Endorphins Lost – Seclusions (Review)

endorphins lost - seclusionsEndorphins Lost are from the US and play grindcore. This is their second album.

My first encounter with Endorphins Lost was on their split with Osk, and I enjoyed their brief, violent take on crust/hardcore-infused grind. Their songs on that split only lasted four minutes, so it’s great to be able to find out what the band can do with 21 minutes of material. Continue reading “Endorphins Lost – Seclusions (Review)”

Gnarwolf – GnarVina – Split (Review)

gnarwolf - gnarvina - splitGnarwolf are a US hardcore band and this is their latest EP, a split with Covina.

I enjoyed 2017’s II, so am pleased to hear some new work from Gnarwolf. We only have seven minutes of material here, divided into three songs, but it sure hits the spot. Continue reading “Gnarwolf – GnarVina – Split (Review)”

Endon – Boy Meets Girl (Review)

Endon - Boy Meets GirlEndon are a Japanese experimental post-hardcore band and this is their third album.

Holy crap, what the Hell is this? I looove it when you stumble blindly upon something as unexpectedly individual as this, especially when it’s done so well. Done poorly, this would be unlistenable nonsense, (and I’m sure there are some that would regard this as such), but Endon have a talent, it seems, for producing unusual, non-easy Continue reading “Endon – Boy Meets Girl (Review)”

Sågverk – Like Royalty (Review)

Sågverk - Like RoyaltySågverk are a Finnish blackened crust band and this is their second album.

This is the follow up to the belligerent Sahataan ne Kaikki from 2015. Like Royalty finds Sågverk in fine form. They have managed to take what made their debut album so enjoyable and refine and develop it further into the very satisfying 38 minutes of music that they have given us here. Continue reading “Sågverk – Like Royalty (Review)”

Lucifer’s Fall – Tales from the Crypt (Review)

Lucifer's Fall - Tales from the CryptLucifer’s Fall are an Australian doom metal band and this is their latest release. It’s an oddball collection of rarities – live tracks, rehearsals, covers, splits, demos, etc. – 62 minutes of raucous, rocking doom metal. Sorry, DOOM METAL!

I can’t help but really like Lucifer’s Fall. They’ve got songs, they’ve got attitude, and they’ve got balls. What’s not to like? Continue reading “Lucifer’s Fall – Tales from the Crypt (Review)”
