Friendship – Hatred (Review)

FriendshipFriendship are from Japan and play blackened grindcore/hardcore. This is their debut album.

Reeking of corrupted dark hardcore, blackened brutality, scathing powerviolence, and virulent grind, this is an album that’s perfectly titled. Continue reading

Implore – Subjugate (Review)

ImploreImplore are a German grindcore band and this is their second album.

What’s in a genre tag, eh? Grindcore this may be, but that appellation doesn’t tell the whole story, for that we have to expand the genre label a tad. Quite a bit actually; blackened crust deathgrind. How about that? Closer to the truth, but definitely an unwieldy mouthful. Continue reading

Seeker – Loss (Review)

SeekerSeeker are from the US and play grindcore/hardcore. This is their second album.

Now this is the stuff for those days when you just can’t seem to get going and you need a huge kick up the arse to get you moving. Seeker are the steel-toe capped boot. Continue reading

Elder Devil – Graves Among the Roots (Review)

Elder DevilElder Devil are a grindcore band from the US and this is their debut EP.

Featuring a member of Keeper, (who play slow, crushingly heavy doom) – at just under 14 minutes in length, this entire release is shorter than some Keeper songs.

The, (very capable), singer is also in Cabin Fire, so this is a duo that isn’t without experience, and it shows. Continue reading

Apes – Lightless (Review)

ApesApes are a dark hardcore band from Canada and this is their debut album.

I love it when you find a band that don’t limit themselves to what they play, exploring multiple genres and bringing everything together with a love of extremity and savage delivery. Continue reading

Sunlight’s Bane – The Blackest Volume: Like All the Earth Was Buried (Review)

Sunlight's BaneThis is the debut album from Sunlight’s Bane, a blackened sludge/grindcore band from the US.

This is nasty, raw and nihilistic music that wants nothing more than to terrify, scar and demoralise the listener. With a mix of Nails, Anaal Nathrakh, Hooded Menace, Aborted, Trap Them, Extreme Noise Terror, Primitive Man, Zao, and many others in their sound, Sunlight’s Bane have concocted an identity that’s very much their own and quite a hard one to accurately classify, if you care about such things. Continue reading

Henry Kane – Den Förstörda Människans Rike (Review)

Henry KaneHenry Kane is a one-man deathgrind/death metal/crust project from Sweden.

This is quite hard to classify, but essentially Den Förstörda Människans Rike is a festering, ugly mix of Swedish death metal, hardcore/crust and Swedish grind.

This is deathgrind of the highest, yet filthiest variety. Think of a mutant mix of Dismember, Nails, Anaal Nathrakh, Nasum and Martyrdöd. Continue reading

Trap Them – Crown Feral (Review)

Trap ThemTrap Them are a hardcore band from the US. This is their fifth album.

Trap Them play dark hardcore, full of raw nastiness and rabid bite.

The singer has the perfect voice for this kind of thing; completely feral and utterly aggressive. His high-pitched screaming shouts lash out from the music like dangerous bladed weapons, eager to draw blood. With compelling rhythms and engaging, memorable vocal patterns, his voice is the driving factor and focal point for the dark music. Continue reading
