Illimitable Dolor – Leaden Light (Review)

Illimitable Dolor - Leaden LightIllimitable Dolor are from Australia, and play atmospheric death/doom metal.

Following on from their split with Promethean Misery, I was keen to hear more from Illimitable Dolor. Well, now is that opportunity; Leaden Light contains 52 minutes of material, carved into five exquisite slices. Continue reading “Illimitable Dolor – Leaden Light (Review)”

Sumac/Baptists/Endon – Manchester The Deaf Institute, 18/03/19 (Live Review)

Sumac Baptists Endon Manchester Deaf Institute

Tonight’s line up features a lot of innovative and exciting extreme music, and I greatly encourage you to check our any of these bands live should you get the opportunity to.

I’ve never been to The Deaf Institute before, but it had a good atmosphere and all the bands tonight benefit from a solid, balanced mix. I’ll definitely look to come back here in the future if I can. Continue reading “Sumac/Baptists/Endon – Manchester The Deaf Institute, 18/03/19 (Live Review)”

Onirophagus – Endarkenment (Illumination Through Putrefaction) (Review)

Onirophagus - Endarkenment (Illumination Through Putrefaction)Onirophagus are a Spanish death/doom metal band and this is their second album.

The phrase ‘crushing doom’ was made for a band like Onirophagus. Well, ‘crushing death/doom’ is more accurate I suppose, but it probably doesn’t matter too much. The operative word here is ‘crushing’. Continue reading “Onirophagus – Endarkenment (Illumination Through Putrefaction) (Review)”

Mammoth Weed Wizard Bastard – Yn Ol I Annwn (Review)

Mammoth Weed Wizard Bastard - Yn Ol I AnnwnThis is the third album from the impressively named Mammoth Weed Wizard Bastard, a doom metal band from the UK.

I really enjoyed the band’s striking 2016 debut record Y Proffwyd Dwyll, which saw the band offer up an intoxicating blend of psychedelic sludge/doom metal. In 2018 they unleashed a mammoth, (ahem), split with Slomatics called Totems, which Continue reading “Mammoth Weed Wizard Bastard – Yn Ol I Annwn (Review)”

Eremit – Carrier of Weight (Review)

Eremit - Carrier of WeightEremit are a doom/sludge band from Germany and this is their debut album.

As I’m sure many reviews will point out, Carrier of Weight is aptly named, as this is an album of substantial heaviness, both in the sense of sheer heaviosity and weighty atmosphere. Either way, it crushes. With only three tracks, but a total playing time of 68 minutes, Carrier of Weight is a monster of atmospheric heaviness. Wolf Counsel – Destination Void (Review)

wolf counsel - destination voidThis is the fourth album from Swiss doom metal band Wolf Counsel.

The promo blurb states that this album is for fans of Cathedral, Candlemass, Trouble, and Solitude Aeturnus, and that’s a fair assessment. Continue reading “Wolf Counsel – Destination Void (Review)”
