Embryectomy – Vitriolic Baptism (Review)

Embryectomy - Vitriolic BaptismEmbryectomy are a Greek death metal band and this is their third album.

Beware, for a monster of slamming deathly brutality this way comes. Armed to the teeth with guttural ferocity and remorseless belligerence, Embryectomy are here to cause carnage. Vitriolic Baptism contains 31 minutes of slamming violence.

The songs are short and crushing, throwing out massive slabs of granite-hard heaviness like it was nothing. The vocals are filthy and disgusting, in a good way. Taken together, Embryectomy offer up the sort of death metal that’s remorselessly good fun.

If you’re looking for feral savagery or blast beat-driven hyperaggression, this is not the record for you; Vitriolic Baptism is a considered, methodical killer, where each assault is taken one atrocity at a time. Yes, Embryectomy take their time with their punishment. The band are more than comfortable bludgeoning through slow avalanches of distortion and wading through mid-paced waters with an intent to kill. They’re clearly having a whale of a time with it too.

Vitriolic Baptism has surely been written with the live environment in mind. You can easily imagine the songs causing mayhem and chaos in the pit. Embryectomy specialise in delivering the sort of inexorable, inevitable, inescapable downtempo slam onslaught that causes crowds to erupt into action at the slightest provocation.

Vitriolic Baptism is a solid outing of crushing death metal slamming heaviness. Embryectomy dish out the damage with a rusty cleaver in each hand and a big grin on their face.

Highly recommended.
