Rorcal are a Swiss post-black/doom metal band and this is their sixth album.
Rorcal have shown what they’re capable of very ably on previous releases such as their 2014 split with Process of Guilt, 2016’s κρέων (Creon), 2019’s Muladona, and 2021’s collaboration with Earthflesh, so I was eager to experience the punishment Silence inevitably held in store for me, whatever form it took. KEN Mode are a noise rock/hardcore band from Canada and this is their ninth album.
While I really liked 2018’s Loved, 2022’s Null hit harder, and really made KEN Mode an exciting proposition. This is the third album from US progressive metallers The Gorge.
Mechanical Fiction contains 45 minutes of modern, heavy music. The Gorge are an interesting band, in that they are ostensibly a band you’d give the tags of progressive metal and technical metal too, but they also incorporate avant-garde and jazz elements into their style, as well as having an underpinning hardcore/sludge influence that’s formative. Spectral Intercession features 31 minutes of old-school death metal, delivered primarily in the Swedish style, (although not exclusively). Yep, grab your chainsaw, and get ready for carnage. If you’re a fan of bands such as Entombed, Dismember, Bloodbath, and Entrails, but also want something with buckets of Autopsy and Asphyx thrown in, as well as a smudge of hardcore and a whiff of doom, then Coffin Mulch have got you covered.
