Slug Gore – They Slime! They Ooze! They Kill! (Review)

Slug Gore - They Slime! They Ooze! They Kill! This is the debut album from Slug Gore, an Italian grindcore band.

Fusing together death metal and grindcore into a gross deathgrind brew that stinks to high heaven, Slug Gore deliver 18 minutes of disgusting fight music on their debut album. Prepare yourself, as it’s about to get messy.

Slug Gore’s grinding mayhem is shot through with death metal muscle and hardcore fury. There are a few slam elements here and there that drop like bombs, but for the most part this is a hymn to the early days of grindcore.

The songs are short and brutal. They’re savage and raw, dealing out punishment through violent riffs, feral speed, and hostile groove. It’s primitive and nasty, trading finesse and subtlety for brute strength, belligerent menace, and frenzied bloodthirstiness. Slug Gore keep it old-school and honest, mercilessly dealing killing blow and after killing blow with crude, (yet effective), weapons made from the bones of their enemies. It’s energetic, invigorating stuff.

They Slime! They Ooze! They Kill! is easy to like if you’re a fan of grindcore’s formative years. It’s surprisingly charismatic and endearing, and also quite nostalgic too to be honest. Yep, it turns out that I like Slug Gore’s belligerent racket a good deal. You should definitely give They Slime! They Ooze! They Kill! some time if bands like Agathocles, Cripple Bastards, Napalm Death, Extreme Noise Terror, and Carcass do it for you.

Very highly recommended.
