Haxprocess – Beyond What Eyes Can See (Review)
This is the second album from US death metal band Haxprocess.
Beyond What Eyes Can See contains 45 minutes of music divided into four epic songs. Haxprocess play progressive death metal, although that simple appellation doesn’t really due justice to what you’ll discover here. This record is a real beast. Continue reading “Haxprocess – Beyond What Eyes Can See (Review)”
Ancient Death – Ego Dissolution (Review)
This is the debut album from US death metal band Ancient Death.
I missed this back in April, but it’s come repeatedly recommended to the point where I had to check it out. I’m glad I did. Ego Dissolution contains 35 minutes of vibrant classic death metal, played so well that I can easily see why Ancient Death have created a bit of a buzz around themselves. Continue reading “Ancient Death – Ego Dissolution (Review)”

Wonderbox Metal End of Year List – Best Metal of 2024
Yes, it’s list season once more, so gather round and witness some of the best metal that 2024 had to offer!
2024 was a fantastic year for metal, and that’s an understatement. I thought 2023 was one of the weaker years for metal releases, overall. As such, putting last year’s list together, although challenging as it always is, was relatively effortless compared to this one. I don’t think I’ve agonised over placings more any other year. In the end, similar to last year, I just decided that enough was enough and I needed to just stop needlessly obsessing. Continue reading “Wonderbox Metal End of Year List – Best Metal of 2024”
Blood Incantation – Absolute Elsewhere (Review)
This is the third album from US death metallers Blood Incantation.
2016’s Starspawn and 2019’s Hidden History of the Human Race were both great records, and now we finally have the much-anticipated Absolute Elsewhere. It’s Blood Incantation’s longest album at 44 minutes, and uses this time wisely to showcase its mastery of cosmic progressive death metal. Continue reading “Blood Incantation – Absolute Elsewhere (Review)”
Gutvoid – Breathing Obelisk (Review)
This is the latest EP from Canadian death metallers Gutvoid.
This is 4-track EP follows on from Gutvoid’s enjoyable 2022’s Durance of Lightless Horizons. With a duration of 30 minutes there’s plenty of meat on the bones of Breathing Obelisk, so let’s dig in and see what it tastes like. Continue reading “Gutvoid – Breathing Obelisk (Review)”
Spectral Voice – Sparagmos (Review)
This is the second album from US death/doom band Spectral Voice.
Featuring members of Black Curse and Blood Incantation, Spectral Voice play the sort of humungous death doom that crushes mountains and destroys villages. Sparagmos boasts 46 minutes of material that’s as distressing as it is rewarding. Continue reading “Spectral Voice – Sparagmos (Review)”

This is the fourth album from Canadian death metallers Tomb Mold.
