The follow up to 2017’s Shifting.negativeHostile contains 66 minutes of new material that finds the band incorporating elements of industrial, electronica, and metal/rock into a very solid album. Continue reading “Aborym – Hostile (Review)”

Emma Ruth Rundle & Thou – The Helm of Sorrow (Review)

Emma Ruth Rundle & Thou - The Helm of SorrowThis is a collaboration between post-rock/folk solo artist Emma Ruth Rundle and doom/sludge metallers Thou, both from the US.

This is the second collaboration between these two artists, although sadly I managed to miss out on the full album that the two released together last year. On the strength of The Helm of Sorrow, this is a real shame, as something special appears to have been created here. Continue reading “Emma Ruth Rundle & Thou – The Helm of Sorrow (Review)”

Escape Is Not Freedom – Surrounded by the Great Nothing (Review)

Escape Is Not Freedom - Surrounded by the Great NothingEscape Is Not Freedom are an alternative/sludge metal band, and this is their second album.

Escape Is Not Freedom are no strangers to this site, (here and here), and it’s great to hear some new material from them. Windhand – Eternal Return (Review)

Windhand - Eternal ReturnWindhand are a doom metal band from the US and this is their fourth album.

Despite Windhand being one of the higher profile examples of this type of music, their split with Satan’s Satyrs was my first exposure to them. As such, it’s great to hear what they’re capable of with a full album’s worth of material to play with. Continue reading “Windhand – Eternal Return (Review)”

Hivetower – Lunacy (Review)

HivetowerHivetower are a US metal band and this is their debut EP.

I like this, it has character. On the longer side for an EP, (31 minutes), Hivetower have produced the type of metal album that pilfers willingly from a few different scenes and styles, while still managing to have a personality of its own. Continue reading “Hivetower – Lunacy (Review)”
