Eternal Black – Slow Burn Suicide (Review)

Eternal Black - Slow Burn SuicideEternal Black are a doom metal band from the US and this is their second album.

I enjoyed both 2015’s Eternal Black and 2017’s Bleed the Days, so new material from this band is no bad thing. Across 38 minutes Eternal Black bring the doom, and do so very ably. Continue reading “Eternal Black – Slow Burn Suicide (Review)”

Black Shroud – Death Culture (Review)

Black Shroud - Death CultureThis is the debut album from Black Shroud, a blackened death metal band from the US.

Black Shroud play a black/death metal hybrid that focuses on muscular death metal backed up by blackened aspects that provide an extra layer of grimness and macabre atmosphere. This blurring of the black/death lines in Black Shroud’s capable hands makes for an enjoyable and satisfying listening experience. Continue reading “Black Shroud – Death Culture (Review)”

Sarinvomit/Eggs of Gomorrh – Encomium of Depraved Instincts – Split (Review)

Sarin Vomit Eggs of Gomorrh - Encomium of Depraved Instincts - SplitSarinvomit are from Turkey and Eggs of Gomorrh are from Switzerland. Both play variants of black metal, and have teamed up for this split release.

Sarinvomit and Eggs of Gomorrh are both rooted in black metal, only mutated and ugly versions of it. This split lasts a hideous 31 minutes, and all eight tracks are worth devouring hungrily, despite how disgusting they are. Disuse – Machine-Gun Kelly (Review)

Disuse - Machine-Gun KellyDisuse are a grindcore band from the Netherlands and this is their latest EP.

Machine-Gun Kelly gives us less than four minutes of new material and follows on from the 2018 EP The Yeti from Kad-Man-RA, which I characterised as nasty blink-and-you’ll-miss-it grindcore. Continue reading “Disuse – Machine-Gun Kelly (Review)”

Gränslandet – Denationalization (Review)

Gränslandet - DenationalizationGränslandet are a hardcore/sludge band from Sweden. This is their second album.

I liked 2016’s Solidium, so it’s good to have the band return to the fray with Denationalization. On their new record the band offer up 37 minutes of crusty hardcore mixed with doomy sludge. Continue reading “Gränslandet – Denationalization (Review)”

Starless Domain – ALMA (Review)

Starless Domain - ALMAStarless Domain are a US black metal band and this is their second album.

If you’re wondering where you know the name Starless Domain from, it’s only earlier this year on the band’s debut record EOS was released. Apparently they’re not interested in resting on their laurels, as only a few months later they now give us ALMA. Continue reading “Starless Domain – ALMA (Review)”

Tomb Mold – Planetary Clairvoyance (Review)

Tomb Mold - Planetary ClairvoyanceThis is the third album from Canadian death metallers Tomb Mold.

2018’s Manor of Infinite Forms was a mutated delight, revelling in its exploration of what death metal was capable of when subjected to the right stressors. I wasn’t expected a new record quite so soon after their exemplary second one, but I’m certainly not complaining. Continue reading “Tomb Mold – Planetary Clairvoyance (Review)”

Rogga Johansson – Entrance to the Otherwhere (Review)

Rogga Johansson - Entrance to the OtherwhereRogga Johansson is a Swedish death metal legend and this is his second solo album.

Rogga Johansson is a man of many bands – listing groups like Paganizer, Down Among the Dead Men, and Echelon only scratches the surface. Not content with his many, many projects, he also has this eponymously named new album. As you would expect, it’s death metal, pure and undiluted. Continue reading “Rogga Johansson – Entrance to the Otherwhere (Review)”

LINGUA IGNOTA – CALIGULA (Review)

LINGUA IGNOTA - CALIGULALINGUA IGNOTA is a one woman experimental artist, and this is her latest album.

Aided by a multitude of guests, (including members of The Body and Full of Hell), this is 66 minutes of beauty and brutality. This is an album that fits in no real category other than a loose experimental one. Peppered with noise, avant-garde, industrial, and post-doom/rock influences, this is music that largely belongs to the artist alone and defies easy categorisation.
