Avatarium – The Fire I Long For (Review)

Avatarium - The Fire I Long ForThis is the fourth album from doom rockers Avatarium, who are from Sweden.

2017’s Hurricanes and Halos was a quality album that stood out from other ostensibly similar bands playing this sort of style. On The Fire I Long For, however, there’s the impression that the band have really come into their own. Continue reading “Avatarium – The Fire I Long For (Review)”

Monolord - No Comfort

Monolord are a doom metal band from Sweden and this is their fourth album.

Mixing doom, stoner, rock, and sludge into 47 minutes of satisfying Black Sabbath/Electric Wizard-esque worship, No Comfort is an enjoyable example of how to deliver a well-worn style with enough personality to be worthwhile. Continue reading “Monolord – No Comfort (Review)”

Wizard Rifle - Wizard RifleWizard Rifle are a US sludge band and this is their third album.

Wear Your Wounds – Rust on the Gates of Heaven (Review)

Wear Your Wounds - Rust on the Gates of HeavenWear Your Wounds are a post-rock band from the US and this is their third album.

Featuring current/ex-members of Converge, The Red Chord, Cave In, Hatebreed, and Trap Them, don’t let these band names fool you – this might not be what you are expecting. Rust on the Gates of Heaven is not a hardcore supergroup. Rather, it’s a 53-minute journey into reflective post-rock waters, and has more in common with bands like Crippled Black Phoenix, Mogwai, Angels of Light, Russian Circles, and, yes, hints of Cave In, than any of the other bands listed. Cave In – Final Transmission (Review)

Cave In - Final TransmissionCave In are a US post-hardcore/rock band and this is their sixth album.

Final Transmission is born out of and shaped by the trauma of catastrophe; the band’s bassist tragically died in a car accident prior to this album being finished. He plays on each song here, however, with the tracks fully Continue reading “Cave In – Final Transmission (Review)”
