I’ve had a huge, (wet, mushy, bloody), soft spot for Exhumed from the first time I heard Gore Metal way back when it came out, and ever since I’ve been a fan. I mention this only because Death Revenge is being released almost 20 years after their legendary debut, but demonstrates a band that have probably never sounded better.
Savage Annihilation are a French death metal band and this is their second album.
Savage Annihilation sound almost exactly as you imagine a band with this name would sound. It’s important to take note of the word ‘almost’ in that sentence, however, as there’s more going on here than you might initially think. Coma Cluster Void’s debut album Mind Cemeteries was 45 minutes of dissonant, cryptic, esoteric death metal that took a few spins to fully appreciate, but when you did conquer its challenging extreme metal worldview, it yielded many rewards and treasures.

I fell strongly for the sheer heaviness and prolonged darkness of Abhorrence in Opulence. This was an hour’s worth of supremely heavy and miserable music, and The Dismal Circle is little different in this regard.
Implore are a German grindcore band and this is their second album.
What’s in a genre tag, eh? Grindcore this may be, but that appellation doesn’t tell the whole story, for that we have to expand the genre label a tad.
