Typhonian – The Gate of the Veiled Beyond (Review)

Typhonian - The Gate of the Veiled BeyondTyphonian are a German death metal band and this is their second album.

The Gate of the Veiled Beyond contains 50 minutes of old-school death metal, but of a non-standard variety. It’s rooted firmly in 90s waters, but has also been expanded with blackened, atmospheric, and progressive influences; Typhonian may look backwards for inspiration, but they also look to the future with what they do with it. Brutally Deceased – Chasms (Review)

Brutally Deceased - ChasmsBrutally Deceased are from Czechia, play death metal, and this is their fourth album.

I thoroughly enjoyed 2010’s Dead Lovers’ Guide and 2016’s Satanic Corpse, so it’s been a long wait for the 29 minutes of new music that Chasms brings us. Continue reading “Brutally Deceased – Chasms (Review)”

Demonical – Victorious Death – Live in Latin America (Review)

Demonical - Victorious Death - Live in Latin AmericaThis is the latest release from Swedish death metal band Demonical.

Although certainly not my first love, and I don’t usually seek them out, I do enjoy a good live album. I really like Demonical, so knew I wanted to check out this live recording as soon as I saw it. Bursting at the seams with 62 minutes of chainsaw-driven death metal, there’s a lot of meaty music here to get your teeth stuck into. Vanhelgd – Atropos Doctrina (Review)

Vanhelgd - Atropos DoctrinaThis is the sixth album from Vanhelgd, a death metal band from Sweden.

I got quite excited when I saw Vanhelgd’s newest appear; it’s been a long six years since 2018’s Deimos Sanktuarium after all. That record even made it onto that year’s year end list, as did its predecessor Temple of Phobos in 2016. 2014’s Relics of Sulphur Salvation didn’t, but probably should have somewhere. Crawl – Altar of Disgust (Review)

Crawl - Altar of DisgustCrawl are a death metal band from Sweden and this is their second album.

I thoroughly enjoyed 2018’s Rituals, so was pleased when Crawl’s split with Feral appeared last year. They’re now back again with Altar of Disgust, which delivers 31 minutes of crust-driven Swedeath heaviness. Continue reading “Crawl – Altar of Disgust (Review)”

Mastiff – Deprecipice (Review)

Mastiff - DeprecipiceMastiff are a hardcore/sludge metal band from the UK and this is their fourth album.

Both 2019’s Plague and 2021’s Leave Me the Ashes of the Earth were enjoyable slabs of ugly sludgy hardcore heaviness, so it’s great to have a new Mastiff album in our lives. Deprecipice contains 34 minutes of material, and sees Mastiff stepping up their game once more. Continue reading “Mastiff – Deprecipice (Review)”

Ribspreader – Reap Humanity (Review)

Ribspreader - Reap HumanityRibspreader are a Swedish death metal band and this is their tenth album.

Brought to us by the incredibly prolific Rogga Johansson, (Down Among the Dead Men, Echelon, Megascavenger, Paganizer, Those Who Bring the Torture, and a million others), along with current/ex-members of Deicide, Inhuman Condition, Kill Division, Venom Inc., and Wombbath), Reap Humanity boasts 36 minutes of experienced death metal carnage. Yersin – The Scythe Is Remorseless (Review)

Yersin - The Scythe Is RemorselessYersin are from the UK and play crust/metal. This is their second album.

Yersin play a hybrid style that combines grindcore, crust, death metal, black metal, and thrash metal into 25 minutes of sludgy filth and fury. This may be a short album, but it packs a punch. Continue reading “Yersin – The Scythe Is Remorseless (Review)”

Carnation – Cursed Mortality (Review)

Carnation - Cursed MortalityThis is the third album from Belgian death metallers Carnation.

Carnation made a mark with 2018’s Chapel of Abhorrence and 2020’s Where Death Lies, so checking out what Cursed Mortality had to offer was mandatory. It seems like each Carnation album gets tighter and more refined, and Cursed Mortality is their most streamlined album yet – eight songs in a lean 35 minutes. Continue reading “Carnation – Cursed Mortality (Review)”

Endseeker – Global Worming (Review)

Endseeker - Global WormingThis is the fourth album from German death metal band Endseeker.

Endseeker are a band that are very easy for me to like. Despite cooling on the Swedish death metal style over the years, I fail to be indifferent to Endseeker’s crushing assault. Both 2019’s The Harvest and 2021’s Mount Carcass were thoroughly enjoyable examples of the style, so will Global Worming follow in their thunderous footsteps? Continue reading “Endseeker – Global Worming (Review)”
