Au-Dessus – Mend (Review)

Au-Dessus - MendThis is the latest EP from Lithuanian post-black metallers Au-Dessus.

After thoroughly enjoying 2017’s End of Chapter, I’m pleased to be able to hear some new material from Au-Dessus. Mend contains five tracks, with a duration of 26 minutes. Continue reading “Au-Dessus – Mend (Review)”

Icare – Charogne (Review)

Icare – Charogne (Review)

Icare - CharogneIcare are a post-black metal band from Switzerland and this is their second album.

So, here’s one that intrigued me form the start with its unusual album artwork. But wait, there’s more to why this grabbed my attention; this is an album that the promo blurb describes as a mix of black-metal, post-metal, and grindcore. It also recommends Charogne for fans of Wake, Calligram, Cult of Luna, and Ulcerate. More and more intriguing, thought I. And then, upon discovery that the album consists of one single 43-minute track, I was sold, and knew I had to check out what Icare have to offer. Continue reading “Icare – Charogne (Review)”

If I Die Today – The Abyss in Silence (Review)

If I Die Today - The Abyss in SilenceThis is the fourth album from Italian hardcore band If I Die Today.

If I Die Today play hardcore with lashings of sludge and post-metal, resulting in a post-hardcore whirlwind of violence and catharsis. Across eight tracks the band demonstrate their ability in no uncertain terms. The Abyss in Silence is a 23-minute underground gem. Continue reading “If I Die Today – The Abyss in Silence (Review)”

Helms Alee – Keep This Be the Way (Review)

Helms Alee - Keep This Be the WayThis is the sixth album by US alternative rock band Helms Alee.

It turns out that a member of Helms Alee was in Harkonen. I loved 2002’s Shake Harder Boy, so it’s great to hear his work once more, albeit in an indirect altered fashion. Continue reading “Helms Alee – Keep This Be the Way (Review)”

Heriot – Profound Morality (Review)

Heriot - Profound MoralityThis is the latest EP from UK metal act Heriot.

Heriot play an interesting and diverse style of music that combines metallic sludge heaviness with hardcore fury and industrial harshness.
