Undead Prophecies – Sempiternal Void (Review)

Undead Prophecies - Sempiternal VoidThis is the second album from death metal band Undead Prophecies.

This is death metal rooted in the old-school. It’s played with obvious reverence for what came before it, and has clearly injected itself with a potent cocktail of stimulants to hit with as much force as it can. Continue reading “Undead Prophecies – Sempiternal Void (Review)”

Gravewards – Ruinous Ensoulment (Review)

GravewardsThis is the debut album from Gravewards, a Greek death metal band.

I have fond recollections of 2017’s Subconscious Lobotomy, so was pleased to see this band’s debut album appear. It’s 43 minutes of old-school death metal that’s influenced by the death metal greats from the 90s, while Continue reading “Gravewards – Ruinous Ensoulment (Review)”

Nadir – The Sixth Extinction (Review)

NadirNadir are a sludge/death metal band from Hungary and this is their sixth album.

The Sixth Extinction features 33 minutes of sludgy death metal. Think of a cross between Crowbar and Bolt Thrower and you’ll not be too far off from where Nadir operate. There’s also a touch of Obituary, Coffins, Incantation, and High on Fire here and there. Continue reading “Nadir – The Sixth Extinction (Review)”

Cist – The Frozen Casket (Review)

CistCist are a Russian death metal band and this is their latest EP.

Cist play old-school death metal, influenced by the likes of Death, Pestilence, and Obituary, mixed with some speedy thrash metal influences. Continue reading “Cist – The Frozen Casket (Review)”

Bloodstrike – Execution of Violence (Review)

BloodstrikeThis is the second album from US death metallers Bloodstrike.

I like Bloodstrike a lot. There’s just something extremely satisfying about their no-frills take on old-school death metal. Their music rages and burns with the best of them, but also has an inherent honesty and authenticity that I find greatly appealing. Continue reading “Bloodstrike – Execution of Violence (Review)”

Wardomized – Red Death (Flows Through My Veins) (Review)

WardomizedWardomized are a UK death/thrash metal band and this is their second EP.

From the moment the EP starts you’re left with no doubt about the old-school pedigree of Wardomized. They seem to have instantly managed to nail down a sound that’s been torn from the 80s, both from a recording point of view and also a stylistic one. Continue reading “Wardomized – Red Death (Flows Through My Veins) (Review)”

Opposer – Darkest Path (Review)

OpposerThis is the second album from Spanish death metallers Opposer.

This is old-school death metal with an equally old-school thrash influence. A mix of Obituary, Death, Bolt Thrower, and Sepultura, if you will. Continue reading “Opposer – Darkest Path (Review)”

Cut Up – Wherever They May Rot (Review)

Cut UpCut Up are a death metal band from Sweden and this is their second album.

This is the kind of death metal album that just steamrolls all over you as soon as you press play. It’s a relentlessly savage monster throughout the playing time, showing no let up in its bloody commitment to knock you over and flatten you to a mushy corpse. Continue reading “Cut Up – Wherever They May Rot (Review)”
