Well, it’s been twelve years since Infernal Infectious Necro-Ambulatory Pandemic saw the light of day, so I thought I’d better check out Upheaval of Malignant Necrambulance to see what Necrambulant have been up to since then. Yes, it’s list season once more, so gather round and witness some of the best metal that 2024 had to offer!
2024 was a fantastic year for metal, and that’s an understatement. I thought 2023 was one of the weaker years for metal releases, overall. As such, putting last year’s list together, although challenging as it always is, was relatively effortless compared to this one. I don’t think I’ve agonised over placings more any other year. This is the seventh album from German death metallers Defeated Sanity.
When it comes to brutal technicality, I think it is fair to say that Defeated Sanity are legends in death metal. Their music is mercilessly brutal, yet boasts a jazz-influenced technical delivery and a progressive edge that’s absorbing. Although an appropriate description of the band’s output, it also doesn’t do the music full justice. Besides this, each of Defeated Sanity’s albums have their own flavour and character too. Day two of UK Slam Fest. I couldn’t make day one unfortunately, but I had to make sure I was here for today. After all, it promises a glorious celebration of ugly heaviness. It’s brutal, fun, and had to be seen. The Bread Shed is not a venue I’ve been to before, but I like it and I’d happily come back here again.
