Extinguish the Sun – Antihero (Review)

Extinguish the SunExtinguish the Sun are an alternative metal band from the US and this is their debut album.

Extinguish the Sun describe their music with reference to bands such as Mastodon, Clutch, Corrosion of Conformity, and Every Time I Die, and I have to say that sets the scene for their music pretty well. Continue reading “Extinguish the Sun – Antihero (Review)”

Cursed Sun – The Amygdala (Review)

Cursed SunThis is the latest EP from UK metal band Cursed Sun.

Cursed Sun combine thrash metal with Southern sludge, a bit of melodic death metal, and some NWOAHM. As we’ll see, there’s more to this band than just this though, and in many ways Cursed Sun channel some quite old-school aspects in their sound. Continue reading “Cursed Sun – The Amygdala (Review)”

Feral/Debutante – Split (Review)

Feral DebutanteFeral are a drone/noise/post-rock band from the UK and Debutante is a one-man electro-rock/drone artist from Switzerland.

I’ve not encountered Feral before, so was unsure of what to expect from their two track, six minute contribution to this release. Continue reading “Feral/Debutante – Split (Review)”

Infinight – Fifteen (Review)

InfinightInfinight are a German power metal band and this is their latest EP.

I’ve developed quite a fondness for Infinight over the years, starting with their hugely enjoyable 2013 EP The Vision, and culminating in their mighty third album Apex Predator, which even made it onto my end of year best of list for 2015. Continue reading “Infinight – Fifteen (Review)”

Interview with Decrepit Throne

Decrepit Throne LogoMelodic black metal band Decrepit Throne’s debut album Traitor’s Grave is the type of album that I really enjoy just sticking on and then letting the blackness and melodic atmospheres roll on over me. There’s no messing around, no ostentation, no unnecessary distractions, and no filler on this album. What you see is what you get, and what you get is very good indeed.

Gregory, one half of the infernal duo that is Decrepit Throne, is a man seemingly possessed by the musical spirit of the second wave, as channelled in a down-to-earth and unassuming way. He was kind enough to pass a few words with us here at Wonderbox Metal about Traitor’s Grave and the band in general.

So, don’t let Decrepit Throne pass you by; check out the band, what they have to offer, and what they’re all about below… Continue reading “Interview with Decrepit Throne”

Beyond Grace – Seekers (Review)

Beyond GraceThis is the debut album from UK death metal act Beyond Grace.

It seems like ages since 2014’s Monstrous was unleashed on the world, showing much promise for the future. Well, that promise has now appeared and coalesced in the form of Seekers. Continue reading “Beyond Grace – Seekers (Review)”

Maou Mindu – Grind Against Humanity (Review)

Maou MinduMaou Mindu are a deathgrind band from Canada and this is their debut EP.

Gotta love deathgrind. Taking the direct, lethal assault of grindcore and combining it with the extra depth that death metal can allow, it frequently marries the two together in strong and sexy ways. In the case of Maou Mindu, the results are very sexy indeed. Continue reading “Maou Mindu – Grind Against Humanity (Review)”

Exist – So True, So Bound (Review)

ExistExist are a progressive/technical death metal band from the US and this is their second album.

Exist have taken the torch from forerunners such as Atheist, Death, and Cynic, and are truly running with it. This means we get an old-school influenced version of the progressive/technical death metal style, as laid down by the aforementioned masters, despite the modern veneer and sparkling production. Continue reading “Exist – So True, So Bound (Review)”

Gravewards – Subconscious Lobotomy (Review)

GravewardsGravewards are a Greek death metal band and this is their debut EP.

You’ve got to love some old-school death metal, especially when it’s played like it is here and so gloriously represents the esoteric 90s style. Continue reading “Gravewards – Subconscious Lobotomy (Review)”

Igorrr – Savage Sinusoid (Review)

IgorrrIgorrr is a one-man project, (with guests), and this is his fourth album.

How to describe this? It’s not easy. Well, I think I’ll just sidestep the entire issue and call it a metal album and be done with it. Then I’ll run away and hide. So, ‘metal’ loosely covers it in a general sense, I suppose, but what an injustice a simple genre tag can be.

This is an album that’s as insane as the album cover. Continue reading “Igorrr – Savage Sinusoid (Review)”
