Brain Bleed – Automated Eradication (Review)

Brain Bleed - Automated EradicationBrain Bleed are a deathgrind band from the US and this is their debut album.

Savage, that’s the word. Or, at least one of them. Brain Bleed are savage. They’re also brutal, belligerent, harsh, and many other similar words. Essentially, they’re a nasty bunch, and Automated Eradication is 20 minutes of all kinds of ugliness. Continue reading “Brain Bleed – Automated Eradication (Review)”

Contaminated/Kutabare – Death Sick/Funeral Erection – Split (Review)

Contaminated - SplitContaminated and Kutabare are both Australian death metal bands and they have teamed up for this split.

This is a split between two bands that sew elements of grindcore into death metal’s rotting corpse. Continue reading “Contaminated/Kutabare – Death Sick/Funeral Erection – Split (Review)”

Sarinvomit/Eggs of Gomorrh – Encomium of Depraved Instincts – Split (Review)

Sarin Vomit Eggs of Gomorrh - Encomium of Depraved Instincts - SplitSarinvomit are from Turkey and Eggs of Gomorrh are from Switzerland. Both play variants of black metal, and have teamed up for this split release.

Sarinvomit and Eggs of Gomorrh are both rooted in black metal, only mutated and ugly versions of it. This split lasts a hideous 31 minutes, and all eight tracks are worth devouring hungrily, despite how disgusting they are. Disuse – Machine-Gun Kelly (Review)

Disuse - Machine-Gun KellyDisuse are a grindcore band from the Netherlands and this is their latest EP.

Machine-Gun Kelly gives us less than four minutes of new material and follows on from the 2018 EP The Yeti from Kad-Man-RA, which I characterised as nasty blink-and-you’ll-miss-it grindcore. Continue reading “Disuse – Machine-Gun Kelly (Review)”

Immortal Bird – Thrive on Neglect (Review)

Immortal Bird - Thrive on NeglectImmortal Bird are a blackened deathgrind band from the US. This is their second album.

Finally we have the follow up to 2015’s Empress/Abscess, which was one of the more notable releases of that year for me. Ahh, it’s nice to hear the band’s atypical intensity back. It sounds better than ever too, with a well-rounded production that is fuller and warmer than in the past. Continue reading “Immortal Bird – Thrive on Neglect (Review)”

Monthly Overview – the Best of June 2019

Phew. After the metallic overload of the past couple of months, June was a bit calmer. Having said that, I have a great selection of releases for you to salivate over, and I still had to cut a few for the sake of brevity that are definitely worthy of inclusion. Anyway, it’s on with the show! Continue reading “Monthly Overview – the Best of June 2019”

Keitzer – Where the Light Ends (Review)

Keitzer - Where the Light EndsKeitzer are a German death metal/grindcore band and this is their seventh album.

Keitzer’s 2014 album The Last Defence was a particular favourite of mine, with its energetic and well-delivered deathgrind really hitting the spot. The follow up – 2016’s Ascension – was more of a death metal affair, and although I do prefer The Last Defence, it was still a solid and enjoyable record. Unknown Artist – A Pig’s Head on a Stick (Review)

Unknown Artist - A Pig's Head on a StickThis is the debut release from Unknown Artist, a French extreme metal band.

What on earth is this unholy abomination? A single 28-minute track of utter nastiness and horror, that’s what. Complex and impenetrable, this is disjointed, inaccessible blackened death metal, and is not for the weak of heart. Continue reading “Unknown Artist – A Pig’s Head on a Stick (Review)”

Miserable Failure – Alone: The Phantom Pain – La Seule Vraie Question – Perdition Light/Never Stop the Sadness (Review)

Miserable Failure - AloneThis is the latest release from Miserable Failure, a French grindcore band.

After the tragic death of the band’s vocalist in 2016, I never thought I’d hear from Miserable Failure again. I’m very glad to be wrong, of course. It is a huge shame, however, that I’ve only just found this out; this release actually first saw the light of day in 2017 apparently. Friendship – Undercurrent (Review)

Friendship - UndercurrentFriendship are from Japan and play blackened grindcore/hardcore. This is their second album.

2017’s Hatred was an intoxicating blend of grindcore, sludge, and blackened hardcore powerviolence. It was a hideously effective record, so I’m quite pleased that we now have Undercurrent to sate our desire for fresh carnage. Continue reading “Friendship – Undercurrent (Review)”
