Mercury Circle – Killing Moons (Review)

Mercury Circle - Killing MoonsThis is the debut album from Finnish dark doom rockers Mercury Circle.

Featuring current and ex-members of Swallow the Sun and Children of Bodom, Killing Moons contains 63 minutes of infectiously dark music. The overall style is one of doom-infused, moody, synth-enriched dark rock. Continue reading “Mercury Circle – Killing Moons (Review)”

Label Roundup: Les Acteurs de L’Ombre Productions – Limbes, Mütterlein, Aorlhac, & Hegemon (Reviews)

Wonderbox Metal gets sent a lot of new music, (which is great), but there’s no way that everything can get covered unfortunately, (which is not so great). This new column hopes to redress this balance, if only slightly, by taking a look at a handful of releases that a record label has recently sent out that might have otherwise slipped through the cracks.

Les Acteurs de L’Ombre Productions has released some very strong albums over the years, so I always like to keep up with what they’re putting out. Imagine my horror when I discovered that I was a good couple of months behind with their releases. To rectify, I’ve collected the three below for your delectation… Continue reading “Label Roundup: Les Acteurs de L’Ombre Productions – Limbes, Mütterlein, Aorlhac, & Hegemon (Reviews)”

Abstracter – Abominion (Review)

Abstracter - AbominionThis is the fourth album from US doom band Abstracter.

As follow up to 2108’s mighty slab of malefic horror that was Cinerous Incarnate, (and Wound Empire and Tomb of Feathers before it), Abominion is Abstracter’s latest assault on the light. Continue reading “Abstracter – Abominion (Review)”

Megalith Levitation – Void Psalms (Review)

Megalith Levitation - Void PsalmsThis is the second album from Russian doom/stoner metal band Megalith Levitation.

2019’s Acid Doom Rites was a colossal trip into long-form doom, and it made enough of an impact so now that Void Psalms has surfaced, I feel ready once more to dive into the band’s evocative and rich world. Continue reading “Megalith Levitation – Void Psalms (Review)”

A Thousand Sufferings – Stilte (Review)

A Thousand Sufferings - StilteA Thousand Sufferings are a Belgian blackened doom band and this is their third album.

I’ve enjoyed seeing the development of A Thousand Sufferings over the years.  Starting with 2015’s sludgy Burden, and then on to 2018’s increasingly blackened Bleakness, the band made a good impression. It’s now 2021 and we have Stilte; the synthesis of black metal and doom has reached its logical conclusion, and the 41 minutes of material on this new album is the band’s richest and most engrossing so far. Label Roundup: Vendetta Records – Gespenst, Aristarchos & Lurid (Reviews)

For the very first one of these columns I thought I’d pick the below three from Vendetta Records. I have a high opinion of this label’s output, and these releases reinforce that. I would ideally have covered each one of these individually, but sadly there’s just not enough time to give everything its proper due. In lieu of that, let’s see what you think of these three below… Continue reading “Label Roundup: Vendetta Records – Gespenst, Aristarchos & Lurid (Reviews)”
