Feind – Ambulante Hirnamputation (Review)

Feind - Ambulante HirnamputationThis is the debut album from German grindcore band Feind.

I often think of grindcore as one of my favourite genres, yet it’s one that I rarely get to encounter quality new bands. This is why, when I become aware of something like Ambulante Hirnamputation, I had to make sure I didn’t miss out on it. It’s 17 tracks, with a duration of only 13 minutes, and it absolutely rips the opposition to shreds. Continue reading “Feind – Ambulante Hirnamputation (Review)”

Essentially a solo act backed up by some talented musicians, Wintersun’s latest record has been eagerly awaited for some time by many people in the metal world. Uniform – American Standard (Review)

Uniform - American StandardUniform are an industrial band from the US and this is their fifth album.

Ever since discovering Uniform on their 2018 album The Long Walk I’ve looked forward to every subsequent release. Whether it’s their collaborations with The Body in 2019, (Everything That Dies Someday Comes Back), or Boris in 2023, (Bright New Disease), or their most recent full length in 2020 Shame, Uniform always produce music that’s worth exploring. Fleshgod Apocalypse - OperaThis is the sixth album from Fleshgod Apocalypse, an Italian death metal band.

Both 2016’s King and 2019’s Veleno were notable records, so it’s with great interest that we turn to the 43 minutes of new music on Opera. Returning after their biggest gap between albums, after challenging adversity, and with a change in lineup since their last album, what does 2024’s Fleshgod Apocalypse have to offer the world at large? Continue reading “Fleshgod Apocalypse – Opera (Review)”

Nile – The Underworld Awaits Us All (Review)

Nile - The Underworld Awaits Us AllNile are a US death metal band and this is their tenth album.

It has been a long five years since 2019’s Vile Nilotic Rites, which itself came four years after 2015’s What Should Not Be Unearthed. Suffice to say, Nile albums don’t come along very often, which makes The Underworld Awaits Us All a big deal in death metal circles. Continue reading “Nile – The Underworld Awaits Us All (Review)”

Spectral Wound – Songs of Blood and Mire (Review)

Spectral Wound - Songs of Blood and MireThis is the fourth album from Canadian black metallers Spectral Wound.

Songs of Blood and Mire boasts 44 minutes of lethal black metal. Stylistically we’re talking a mixture of the Norwegian, Finnish, and Canadian scenes, so if you’re a fan of bands such as Behexen, Forteresse, Gorgoroth, Sargeist, Tsjuder, etc., then this is for you. Simone Simons – Vermillion (Review)

Simone Simons - VermillionThis is the debut album from Simone Simons, a symphonic metal artist from the Netherlands.

I’ve always had a healthy respect for Epica, and for the vocals of their talented singer Simone Simons, so when Vermillion appeared, it only made sense to check it out. I’m so glad I did. Continue reading “Simone Simons – Vermillion (Review)”

Here’s we have a passionate slab of old-school darkness. Ignobleth play war metal brutality that’s grim and sinister.
