Analepsy – Quiescence (Review)

Analepsy - QuiescenceAnalepsy are a slamming brutal death metal band from Portugal and this is their second album.

I have been waiting for this for soooo long. It’s been a long time since I was hugely impressed by 2015’s Dehumanization by Supremacy and 2017’s Atrocities from Beyond, but Analepsy have finally returned to show everyone who’s boss. Back with almost a completely new lineup, (which includes members of Annihilation and Necrovile), Quiescence contains 39 minutes of Analepsy doing what Analepsy do best – crushing skulls with massive slamming death metal. Arkaik – Labyrinth of Hungry Ghosts (Review)

Arkaik - Labyrinth of Hungry GhostsThis is the sixth album from US death metallers Arkaik.

Back now with a new lineup, (featuring current and ex-members of Singularity, Alterbeast, Dessiderium, and Nullingroots), Labyrinth of Hungry Ghosts boasts 48 minutes of new material. Both 2015’s Lucid Dawn and 2017’s Nemethia were very likeable records, so Arkaik’s new one carries a certain level of expectation. Spoiler alert – it’s been exceeded. Golgothan – Leech (Review)

Golgothan - LeechGolgothan are a death metal band from the US and this is their debut album.

Golgothan offer up 38 minutes of brutal death metal. Worshipping at the altar of modern song-based big-hitters such as Aborted and Cattle DecapitationLeech is a great example of  how to take inspiration from well-known names and produce something that’s well-worth getting stuck into. Abysmal Dawn – Nightmare Frontier (Review)

Abysmal Dawn - Nightmare FrontierAbysmal Dawn are a death metal band from the US and this is their latest EP.

Abysmal Dawn are always worth checking out, in my humble opinion. Their brand of modern death metal is heavyweight and satisfying, and their latest EP offers 19 minutes of meaty aggression to satisfy fans of the style. Continue reading “Abysmal Dawn – Nightmare Frontier (Review)”

Aethereus – Leiden (Review)

Aethereus - LeidenAethereus are a death metal band from the US and this is their second album.

Leiden is a 55-minute death metal monstrosity that blends technical, progressive, and dissonant elements together into a very impressive package. The band’s Facebook page describes them as for fans of Obscura, Beyond Creation, and Gorguts, and that’s a good starting place from which to approach Leiden. Continue reading “Aethereus – Leiden (Review)”

Enterprise Earth – The Chosen (Review)

Enterprise Earth - The ChosenThis is the fourth album from US metal/deathcore band Enterprise Earth.

Enterprise Earth walk a line between modern death metal, deathcore, and metalcore, and on The Chosen the band deliver a whopping 71 minutes of meaty material for listeners to get their teeth into. Continue reading “Enterprise Earth – The Chosen (Review)”

Pathology – The Everlasting Plague (Review)

Pathology - The Everlasting PlagueThis is the eleventh album from US death metallers Pathology.

Both 2017’s Pathology and 2019’s Reborn to Kill were brutally fun records to listen to. What of The Everlasting Plague?

Unexpectedly lengthy, (relatively speaking), at 41 minutes in Continue reading “Pathology – The Everlasting Plague (Review)”

Atræ Bilis – Apexapien (Review)

Atræ Bilis - ApexapienThis is the debut album from Canadian death metal band Atræ Bilis.

Across 32 minutes of brutal darkness, Atræ Bilis explore various expressions of heaviness via roaring death metal. Continue reading “Atræ Bilis – Apexapien (Review)”

Cognizance – Upheaval (Review)

Cognizance - UpheavalThis is the second album from UK/Austrian death metal band Cognizance.

Despite enjoying Cognizance’s early work, (such as Inquisition), I somehow managed to miss out on the band’s debut album Malignant Dominion. As such, when Upheaval appeared, lest I miss out again, I greedily took it to one side and hungrily devoured it. Continue reading “Cognizance – Upheaval (Review)”

Æpoch – Hiraeth (Review)

Æpoch - HiraethThis is the latest EP from Æpoch, a Canadian progressive death metal band.

This EP delivers 19 minutes of Æpoch’s modern progressive/technical death metal assault. Laced with black and thrash metal elements, (but less than previously), and powered by melodic might, Hiraeth is a short but satisfying hit of metallic aggression. Continue reading “Æpoch – Hiraeth (Review)”
