Gränslandet – Solidum (Review)

granslandetGränslandet are a hardcore band from Sweden. This is their debut album.

This is 41 minutes of filthy hardcore that combines d-beat, crust and sludge together into a grime-covered mass of aural pollution.

The band have the kind of production that sounds as if they’ve been dragged out of the swamp, kicking and clawing into the sunlight. Raw, underground and filthy doesn’t quite cover it in many ways. Continue reading “Gränslandet – Solidum (Review)”

Nuisible – Inter Feces et Urinam Nascimur (Review)

NuisibleNuisible are a blackened hardcore band from France. This is their debut album.

Inter Feces et Urinam Nascimur sort of sounds like what would happen if Darkthrone embraced a love of Scandinavian d-beat and produced one massively pissed off record. Add in some elements of crusty death metal and grindcore and you have 23 minutes of red-hot anger. Continue reading “Nuisible – Inter Feces et Urinam Nascimur (Review)”

Soulburn – Earthless Pagan Spirit (Review)

SoulburnThis is the third album from Soulburn, a predominantly black metal band from the Netherlands.

Featuring ex-members of Asphyx, this is a solid slab of prime-time metal that effectively mixes black and death metal, (with some doom), into a tasty 47 minutes. Continue reading “Soulburn – Earthless Pagan Spirit (Review)”

A Sense of Gravity – Atrament (Review)

A Sense of GravityA Sense of Gravity are a progressive metal band from the US. This is their second album.

I bet you’ve always wanted a record that mixes Dream Theater and Between the Buried and Me haven’t you? Well, now you have one. With symphonic/neoclassical elements combined with extreme metal, this is 68 minutes of progressive metal delivered just the way we like it; interesting and exciting. Continue reading “A Sense of Gravity – Atrament (Review)”

The Last Ten Seconds of Life – The Violent Sound (Review)

The Last Ten Seconds of LifeThe Last Ten Seconds of Life are a US metal band, this is their third album.

What happens when deathcore runs out of room to expand within its restrictive genre confines and needs to spread its wings into a wider world? The Violent Sound is what happens.

Mixing the heavy, low-end rumble of deathcore with a slice of nu-metal, The Last Ten Seconds of Life have a sound that is largely one of their own in 2016. Continue reading “The Last Ten Seconds of Life – The Violent Sound (Review)”

11Paranoias – Reliquary for a Dreamed of World (Review)

11 ParanoiasThis is the third album from 11Paranoias, a UK sludge/doom band.

The album cover alone makes me feel paranoid, not to mention confused and slightly panicked, and this is before I’ve even pressed play. Continue reading “11Paranoias – Reliquary for a Dreamed of World (Review)”

Black Tomb – Black Tomb (Review)

Black TombBlack Tomb are a sludge/doom band from the US. This is their debut album.

Black Tomb appear to have congealed out of some dank, dark tar pit with the express purpose of creating bleak, filthy doom metal.

Think of Electric Wizard if they were a Continue reading “Black Tomb – Black Tomb (Review)”

Pighead – Until All Flesh Decays (Review)

PigheadThis is the third album from Pighead, a death metal band from Germany.

Featuring members of Intravenous Contamination, this is brutal death metal that somewhat combines the USDM style, (Suffocation, Deeds of Flesh, Dying Fetus), with a touch of an Aborted flavour in places. It’s brutal, it slams, and it’s a jolly good listen. Continue reading “Pighead – Until All Flesh Decays (Review)”
