Veilburner – All That Glimmers Is Gloam (Review)

Veilburner - All That Glimmers Is GloamVeilburner are a black/death metal band from the US and this is their ninth album.

Veilburner; an enigma. A tantalising mystery with no obtainable answer. All That Glimmers Is Gloam; a 50-minute riddle, riven with metamorphic grace, yet ripe with transcendent promise.

All That Glimmers Is Gloam is an unapproachable, warped slice of otherness. A multidimensional invader, it seeps through the airwaves like sentient blood through water, slowly spreading and twisting to its own unfathomable designs.

The nine incantations that make up the audible part of this strange and eerie entity pulse with malignant unease. They’re untamed and unfettered by standards of decency or normality, instead manifesting as amorphous hymns that reshape the matter around them as they creep and crawl and flicker and blink across the world. Just the mere suggestion of All That Glimmers Is Gloam is enough to herald a plague of change. Veilburner corrupt reality with slithering tendrils of melody and dark colourful auras that reek of spectral might. Unwary listeners are transformed by the experience, into forms more pleasing to the music’s void-born sensibilities. The resultant monstrosities are driven to madness by their new existence, but it’s all worth it.

A wonderful end approaches for any that seek it. Veilburner’s latest opus brings gloriously ruinous upheaval and a closing of stories for all that would hear their bountiful esoteric messages. All That Glimmers Is Gloam has transformational sounds unrivalled, yet speaks to you alone. Will you hear its siren call?
