Blissful Stream is a Swedish one man doom metal band and this is his latest EP.
I really like Blissful Stream. Both 2016’s Ascending Demons and 2017’s Devil’s Night to All Souls, (a split with Lightsabres), were very enjoyable and showcased the artist’s lo-fi and charismatic take on doom metal/rock. Now it’s 2018, and time for a new EP, which we have in the form of the 14 minutes of material that makes up Dead Religious. Continue reading “Blissful Stream – Dead Religious (Review)”
This is a split between three black metal bands, Precaria from Mexico, Deathspiral of Inherited Suffering from the US, and Dominus Ira from Russia.
This is a split based around a single concept, (the concept of Theion, the divine fire that burns but never consumes), with each band contributing their individual vision of occult black metal to the overarching whole. A lot of time and effort has obviously gone into this release, which is reflected in the lengthy playing time of 68 minutes. Tons are an Italian doom/sludge metal band and this is their second album.
Characterised by huge riffs and acidic vocals, Filthy Flowers of Doom is aptly named in many ways, delivering 38 minutes of sludgy doom. Continue reading “Tons – Filthy Flowers of Doom (Review)”
Above Aurora are a Polish black metal band and this is their latest EP.
Above Aurora play black metal laced with venom and swirling with dark energies. This release contains three songs with a total duration of 17 minutes, and should appeal to those that like their black metal to have a nuanced, mid-paced approach to spreading darkness. Continue reading “Above Aurora – Path to Ruin (Review)”
This is the second album from King Goat, a progressive doom metal band from the UK.
I’ve been extremely excited for this one. This is a band that takes everything I love about traditional doom metal and combines it with a progressive metal element that sees the songs soar above almost all of their so-called peers with ease. Continue reading “King Goat – Debt of Aeons (Review)”
Boss Keloid are a UK progressive sludge/doom metal band and this is their fourth album.
2016’s immense Herb Your Enthusiasm was a landmark release for the band. It was, quite simply, such a good Continue reading “Boss Keloid – Melted on the Inch (Review)”
Deadly Carnage are an Italian post-black metal band and this is their fourth album.
This is 45 minutes of creative metal, mixing black metal with doom, post-metal, and progressive influences. The band have produced an epic, exploratory journey across the cosmos, and do this via some expressive and emotive music. Continue reading “Deadly Carnage – Through the Void, Above the Suns (Review)”
Messa are an Italian doom metal band and this is their second album.
This is the follow up to 2016’s very enjoyable Belfry. This was an album that took the classic doom metal template and injected elements of ambient/drone into it, along with the band members’ own distinct personalities. Continue reading “Messa – Feast for Water (Review)”
Aphonic Threnody are a funeral doom band with an international lineup and this is their second album.
Featuring members of Arrant Saudade, Towards Atlantis Lights, and Dea Marica, and with guests from many other bands, including Alunah, Mournful Congregation, and My Shameful, before you even press play it seems apparent that there’s little chance of Of Loss and Grief falling flat on its face. And, when you do finally press play, you’re Continue reading “Aphonic Threnody – Of Loss and Grief (Review)”
