Tribal Gaze – The Nine Choirs (Review)

Tribal Gaze - The Nine ChoirsTribal Gaze are a death metal band from the US and this is their debut album.

The Nine Choirs is a 36-minute journey into death metal and hardcore territories that’s well-worn, yet feels fresh at the same time; Tribal Gaze take the old-school style and makes it absolutely massive, both through the mammoth sound of the record itself and how stupidly fun the music is. Tribal Gaze just destroy. Oh, and they have riffs for days. Continue reading “Tribal Gaze – The Nine Choirs (Review)”

Orthodoxy – Ater Ignis (Review)

Embarla Firgasto – Temporal Capsule (Review)

Embarla Firgasto - Temporal CapsuleThis is the debut album from one-man Polish death metal band Embarla Firgasto.

Temporal Capsule offers up 31 minutes of dissonant blackened death metal. The artist claims influence from acts such as Deathspell Omega, Aosoth, Ulcerate, Gorguts, Leviathan, Convulsing, and VI, and this is a good place to start when approaching this album. Phobophilic – Enveloping Absurdity (Review)

Phobophilic - Enveloping AbsurdityThis is the debut album from US death metallers Phobophilic.

Phobophilic combine the esoteric approach of Demilich, with the malevolent nature of Morbid Angel, and the crushing heaviness of Incantation. Fans of the output of bands such as Tomb Mold, Immolation, Worm, Ossuarium, Outer Heaven, and Blood Incantation need to pay attention to this. Omophagia – Rebirth in Black (Review)

Omophagia - Rebirth in BlackOmophagia are a Swiss death metal band and this is their fourth album.

2016’s In the Name of Chaos was very enjoyable, but it was with 2019’s 646965 that Omophagia really made their mark. As such, Rebirth in Black is one I’ve been waiting for, so let’s get to it. Continue reading “Omophagia – Rebirth in Black (Review)”

Dead Void – Volatile Forms (Review)

Dead Void - Volatile FormsThis is the debut album from Danish death/doom band Dead Void.

This is death metal that has fully embraced the dark side of sinister doom. The blending of the two by Dead Void has given us a collection of five songs that spend 46 minutes hammering the listener with hateful intentions and raw atmospheric darkness.

Sublation – The Path to Bedlam (Review)

Sublation - The Path to BedlamThis is the debut album from US death metallers Sublation.

I loved Fisthammer’s 2014 album Infallible. An incredible blend of blackened and technical death metal, it’s an album I still visit surprisingly often. Why do I bring this up here? Because Sublation are the reincarnation of Fisthammer, who have returned with a new name, a stripped back lineup, and a refreshed vision for extreme metal. As such, I simply had to give The Path to Bedlam a decent airing. Continue reading “Sublation – The Path to Bedlam (Review)”

Deformatory – Harbinger (Review)

Deformatory - HarbringerDeformatory are a Canadian death metal band and this is their latest EP.

Deformatory’s brand of brutality is one that I am well on board with, (make sure you check out In the Wake of Pestilence, Malediction, and Inversion of the Unseen Horizon). Harbinger delivers 16 minutes of the good stuff, ferociously demonstrating why Deformatory are an easy win for fans of brutal and technical death metal. Continue reading “Deformatory – Harbinger (Review)”
