Dark Divinity – Messianic (Review)

Dark Divinity - MessianicDark Divinity are a melodic death metal band from New Zealand, and this is their debut EP.

The promo blurn tells us that “Following in the footsteps of genre originators At the Gates, The Haunted & Dissection, the band also take cues from death/black metal acts such as Immortal, Morbid Angel & Death.” Bold words, but backed up by 18 minutes of music that cuts like a serrated knife, you’ll find no complaint from me. Odraza – Rzeczom (Review)

Odraza - RzeczomThis is the second album from Polish black metallers Odraza.

On Rzeczom we get 45 minutes of black metal with avant-garde tendencies, which may be an apt description, but it doesn’t properly let you know what a real treat you’re in for should you choose to delve into Odraza’s world. Continue reading “Odraza – Rzeczom (Review)”

Azath - Through a Warren of ShadowAzath are an international death metal band and this is their debut album.

Lantern – Dimensions (Review)

Lantern - DimensionsThis is the third album from Lantern, a Finnish blackened death metal band.

2017’s  II: Morphosis was a grim and evil collection of tracks, and made a good enough impression that I knew I wanted to check out Dimensions when it appeared. These new tracks are dismal and dark, fusing death, black, and Continue reading “Lantern – Dimensions (Review)”

Nodus Tollens – Melancholic Waters Ablaze with the Fires of Loss (Review)

Nodus Tollens - Melancholic Waters Ablaze with the Fires of LossThis is the debut album from Nodus Tollens, a one-man black metal band from the US.

I was impressed with Nodus Tollens’ split with Crown of Asteria, so was looking forward to more material appearing from this artist. Rites of Daath - Doom Spirit EmanationRites of Daath are a death metal band from Poland and this is their debut album.

Rites of Daath play morbid, filthy death metal crossed with atmospheric death/doom, resulting in a hideous monstrosity of blackened horror that makes for quite an impressive and immersive 38 minutes. Continue reading “Rites of Daath – Doom Spirit Emanation (Review)”

Convocation – Ashes Coalesce (Review)

Convocation - Ashes CoalesceConvocation are a funeral doom band from Finland, and this is their second album.

I enjoyed 2018’s Scars Across; the band’s brand of atmospheric funeral death/doom was crushingly oppressive and filled with misery, just as you’d want something like this to be. Convocation have now returned with 45 minutes of Continue reading “Convocation – Ashes Coalesce (Review)”
