November was a strong month for metal. Both death metal and doom are well-represented below, but as we’ll see more than just those two genres produced some great records in the past month. Damnation Festival – Leeds University, 03/11/18 (Live Review)
The UK’s Damnation Festival has once again rolled around, and it’s time for all good music fans to get themselves to Leeds and bask in the amazing lineup that the festival gods always seem to be able to pull together. As you can see from the above poster, this year boasted some great talent.

Built-in Obsolescence – Instar (Review)
Built-in Obsolescence are a progressive/post-metal band from Italy. This is their debut album.
Here we have 61 minutes of post-metal with progressive tendencies. Modelled on influences such as The Ocean, Cult of Luna, Isis, and a touch of Tool, Built-in Obsolescence mould elements of these to satisfy their own vision of what heavy music should sound like in 2018. King Goat – Debt of Aeons (Review)

Dreamarcher – Harding (Review)
Dreamarcher are a Norwegian metal band and this is their latest EP.
Dreamarcher’s 2016 self-titled debut album was notable for its atypical approach to emotive heavy music. It was an enjoyable album, and Harding is even more so.

A Light Within – Epilogue (Review)
This is the latest EP from A Light Within, a post-metal band from the US.
This is atmospheric post-metal with some progressive and post-rock elements. Take the post-metal triumvirate of Isis, Neurosis, and Cult of Luna, and throw in some Deftones, The Ocean, and Devil Sold His Soul, and you’ll have a basic starting point. Coilguns – Millennials (Review)
Coilguns are a hardcore band from Switzerland and this is their second album.
