Immortal Bird – Sin Querencia (Review)

Immortal Bird - Sin QuerenciaThis is the third album from US blackened extreme metallers Immortal Bird.

It’s been a long time since 2019’s Thrive on Neglect and an even longer time since 2015’s Empress/Abscess, (a standout release of that year), so it’s a real treat to have Immortal Bird back with us. Continue reading “Immortal Bird – Sin Querencia (Review)”

Oryx – Primordial Sky (Review)

Oryx - Primordial SkyOryx are a sludge metal band from the US and this is their fourth album.

I enjoyed 2021’s Lamenting a Dead World a great deal, so I knew I had to check out Primordial Sky. Across 41 minutes Oryx once again deliver a weighty slab of blackened sludge doom that’s more expressive than most. Continue reading “Oryx – Primordial Sky (Review)”

Heriot – Devoured by the Mouth of Hell (Review)

Heriot - Devoured by the Mouth of HellThis is the debut album from UK metal act Heriot.

I enjoyed 2022’s Profound Morality, so have been looking forward to Heriot unleashing a full album. I’ll tell you what too, they haven’t disappointed me. Quite the opposite in fact. Continue reading “Heriot – Devoured by the Mouth of Hell (Review)”

Glacial Tomb – Lightless Expanse (Review)

Glacial Tomb - Lightless ExpanseThis is the second album from US death metal band Glacial Tomb.

Glacial Tomb boast not one, but two members of the mighty Khemmis, so I’m somewhat shocked that I’m so late to their sludgy blackened death metal party. Yep, that’s right – Lightless Expanse gifts us with a 36-minute platter of horrific death metal, ripe with sludge and black metal flavourings. It’s only right that we eat deep of this malignant bounty that’s set before us. Continue reading “Glacial Tomb – Lightless Expanse (Review)”

156/Silence – People Watching (Review)

156 Silence - People WatchingThis is the fifth album from US metallic hardcore band 156/Silence.

People Watching contains 47 minutes of 156/Silence’s brand of crushing metalcore. It’s a contemporary blend of hardcore and metal that’s not completely what I expected it to be. Continue reading “156/Silence – People Watching (Review)”

Generation of Vipers – Guilt Shrine (Review)

Generation of Vipers - Guilt ShrineThis is the fifth album from US sludge metal band Generation of Vipers.

I last heard Generation of Vipers on 2011’s Howl and Filth, which was a long time ago, (their last album actually came out in 2014 though, which I missed). Guilt Shrine contains 35 minutes of sludgy menace. Continue reading “Generation of Vipers – Guilt Shrine (Review)”

Gråt Strigoi – The Prophetic Silence (Review)

Gråt Strigoi - The Prophetic SilenceThis is the fourth album from UK black metallers Gråt Strigoi.

Despite being four albums deep into their career, I’ve never heard of Gråt Strigoi before the wonderful Fiadh Productions put them on my radar. It’s seriously been my loss, as this stuff is so far up my alley it hurts. The Prophetic Silence contains 56 minutes of black metal that’s so good you should just stop reading this now and go and listen to it. Continue reading “Gråt Strigoi – The Prophetic Silence (Review)”

Mnajdra – In the Name of the Goddess (Review)

Mnajdra - In the Name of the GoddessThis is the second album from US black metal band Mnajdra.

Following hot on the heels of last year’s self titled debut comes In the Name of the Goddess; 50 minutes of apocalyptic modern black metal. Mnajdra’s malefic music has ascended to a higher level of spectral might with this new album. Continue reading “Mnajdra – In the Name of the Goddess (Review)”
