Dimscûa – Dust Eater (Review)

Dimscûa – Dust Eater (Review)

Dimscûa - Dust EaterThis is the debut album from UK post-metal band Dimscûa.

It’s unlikely I would have come across this if it wasn’t for the organiser of Damnation Festival‘s enthusiastic endorsement for it on the brilliant 2 Promoters 1 Pod. I’m glad I did though, as it’s a corker. Dust Eater is a 32-minute post-metal/sludge tour de force. Continue reading “Dimscûa – Dust Eater (Review)”

Idle Heirs – Life Is Violence (Review)

Idle Heirs - Life Is ViolenceThis is the debut album from US post-metal band Idle Heirs.

Featuring the singer of Coalesce, Life Is Violence brings us a 51-minute journey into absorbing post-metallic worldbuilding. It’s well-written, professionally executed, and passionately delivered. Continue reading “Idle Heirs – Life Is Violence (Review)”

The Grey – Kodok (Review)

The Grey – Kodok (Review)

The Grey - KodokThis is the third album from UK post-metal band The Grey.

The Grey blend post-metal with stoner doom riffery and post-rock  grace. Kodok spends 42 minutes building a variety of sonic soundscapes that are immersive and absorbing. Stylistically, we’re in the territory of acts such as Pelican, Red Sparowes, Mountain Caller, Russian Circles, Bossk, and similar, at least as a rough starting point for Kodok. Continue reading “The Grey – Kodok (Review)”

Telepathy – Transmissions (Review)

Telepathy – Transmissions (Review)

Telepathy - TransmissionsThis is the fourth album from UK post-metal band Telepathy.

What do we have here then? The promo blurb Pelagic Records recommends Telepathy for fans of Tool, Deftones, Russian Circles, and The Ocean, which, coupled with the fact that it’s on the ever-interesting Pelagic Records, meant I couldn’t pass this by without checking it out. Let’s get stuck in then. Continue reading “Telepathy – Transmissions (Review)”

Codespeaker – Scavenger (Review)

Codespeaker – Scavenger (Review)

Codespeaker - ScavengerThis is the second album from UK post-metal band Codespeaker.

Featuring current/ex-members of Dvne and Frontierer, Codespeaker have arrived ready to flatten with all of the considerable weight they can bring to bear. Taking influence from the post-metal giants of Neurosis, Cult of Luna, and Isis, Codespeaker have crafted a 51-minute journey into darkness. I’ll also mention bands such as Bossk, Briqueville, and Hundred Year Old Man as appropriate reference points too. Continue reading “Codespeaker – Scavenger (Review)”

Briqueville – IIII (Review)

Briqueville – IIII (Review)

Briqueville - IIIIThis is the fourth album from Belgian post-metal band Briqueville.

IIII contains 39 minutes of dark, enigmatic music. Briqueville’s style is deeply atmospheric, and IIII is the sort of album that will drag you into the darkness as it hypnotises with its shifting walls of rich mood. Continue reading “Briqueville – IIII (Review)”

Mairu – Sol Cultus (Review)

Mairu - Sol CultusThis is the debut album from UK post-metal band Mairu.

Sol Cultus brings together post-metal, sludge, and doom into a 49-minute feast of atmospheric heavy music. Mairu’s vision is a mood-rich immersive one, and Sol Cultus achieves their lofty ambitions. Continue reading “Mairu – Sol Cultus (Review)”

Bossk – Migration (Review)

Migration contains 42 minutes of charismatic post-metal. Fusing together elements of atmospheric sludge and post-metal build/release, with experimental and psychedelic explorations, Migration is an impressive and accomplished work. Continue reading “Bossk – Migration (Review)”
