Blessings – Biskopskniven (Review)

Blessings - BiskopsknivenThis is the second album from Blessings, a Swedish post-hardcore band.

Blessings merge elements of noise rock, post-rock, and sludge into their sound. The end result is an album of multifaceted post-hardcore, rich in textured nervous energy and bristling with raw emotional intensity. The promo Continue reading “Blessings – Biskopskniven (Review)”

Order of the Wolf/Pessimista – Split (Review)

Order of the Wolf Pessimista - SplitThis is a split between two solo bands rooted in black metal – Order of the Wolf from the UK and Pessimista from Brazil.

This actually came out last year originally, but is now getting a tape release. This is my first encounter with both bands, and this split acts as a very good introduction to them. Continue reading “Order of the Wolf/Pessimista – Split (Review)”

Capra – In Transmission (Review)

Capra - In TransmissionThis is the debut album from US hardcore band Capra.

Capra play a hybrid style of metallic hardcore and punk. It’s a style that you don’t hear too much these days, and they play it damn well. It’s a style that makes me very nostalgic, yet at the same time it also sounds vibrant and fresh due to the band’s inherent enthusiasm and skill. Continue reading “Capra – In Transmission (Review)”

Enforced – Kill Grid (Review)

Enforced - Kill GridEnforced are a thrash metal band from the US and this is their second album.

Enforced unleash 41 minutes of crossover death/thrash on Kill Grid, and it’s utterly devastating.

Landmvrks – Lost in the Waves (Review)

Landmvrks - Lost in the WavesLandmvrks are a French metalcore band and this is their third album.

After their solid 2018 effort Fantasy, Landmvrks are now back with another 33 minutes of material. Lost in the Waves is heavier than its predecessor, but without losing its melodic edge. Shorter than the album that preceded it, it’s also more diverse. Continue reading “Landmvrks – Lost in the Waves (Review)”

Portrayal of Guilt – We Are Always Alone (Review)

Portrayal of Guilt - We Are Always AlonePortrayal of Guilt are a blackened hardcore band from the US and this is their second album.

And now for 26 minutes of grim darkness and murderous brutality. Portrayal of Guilt play the sort of ultra-nasty hardcore that can lacerate flesh at 1000 paces. Mixing together blistering hardcore and angry punk with a blackened sheen, this is not for the faint of heart. Continue reading “Portrayal of Guilt – We Are Always Alone (Review)”

Regnvm Animale – Ignis Sacer (Review)

Regnvm Animale - Ignis SacerRegnvm Animale are a black metal band from Sweden and this is their latest EP.

Regnvm Animale play black metal with a crust influence. As far as EPs go, Ignis Sacer is longer than some albums at 27 minutes in length. Due to my intense dislike of anything spoken word, the intro is a complete waste of space for me, but the remaining four tracks certainly aren’t.
