Barren Path – Grieving (Review)

Barren Path - GrievingThis is the debut album from grindcore band Barren Path.

Basically brought to us by a mix of personnel from Gridlink and Maruta, Barren Path are here to remind everyone of just how potent grindcore can be when it’s in the right hands. With 12 tracks over 14 minutes, Grieving is a whirlwind of controlled chaos and devastation. Continue reading “Barren Path – Grieving (Review)”

Space Witch – Mountains of Neptune (Review)

Space Witch - Mountains of NeptuneSpace Witch are a stoner doom metal band from the UK and this is their third album.

Space Witch’s style is instrumental, and takes from the sludge, stoner, and doom metal styles. Their new record – Mountains of Neptune – contains  just a single eponymous song, but it’s a 37-minute behemoth, so you’d better prepare for a crushing, cosmic experience.

Afsky – Fællesskab (Review)

Afsky - FællesskabThis is the fourth album from Danish solo black metal band Afsky.

If you aren’t familiar with Afsky, make sure you also check out 2018’s Sorg, 2020’s Ofte Jeg Drømmer Mig Død, and 2023’s Om Hundrede År. None will disappoint. Which leads us to Fællesskab, and its 45 minutes of new material. Can the artist behind Afsky maintain his winning streak of quality black metal albums? Scorching Tomb – Ossuary (Review)

Scorching Tomb - OssuaryThis is the debut album from Canadian death metal band Scorching Tomb.

Ossuary contains 30 minutes of crushing death metal, and it offers a real treat for fans of the modern old-school, (if you know what I mean). Scorching Tomb have created a cracking record. Let’s get to it. Continue reading “Scorching Tomb – Ossuary (Review)”

Mastiff – For All the Dead Dreams (Review)

Mastiff - For All the Dead DreamsThis is the latest EP from UK hardcore/sludge metallers Mastiff.

A new Mastiff release is always something to pay attention to. Since 2019’s Plague I’ve thoroughly enjoyed betting beaten around the head by their brutal heaviness. On 2021’s Leave Me the Ashes of the Earth and last year’s Deprecipice they only seemed to get heavier and nastier. Which brings us to For All the Dead Dreams, which delivers seventeen minutes of punishment for us to soak up. Continue reading “Mastiff – For All the Dead Dreams (Review)”
