Interview with Aversions Crown

Aversions Crown Header

Xenocide, the latest album by Australian band Aversions Crown, is 50 minutes of the best kind of modern extremity. Fusing cutting-edge death metal with haunting atmospherics and a streamlined sophistication, the songs that make up this release are brutal, relentless and catchy enough to make it seem like getting your face ripped off over and over again is a good thing.

We talked to the band’s guitarist Mick Jeffery to get you in the mood for some of their ultra-brutality… Continue reading “Interview with Aversions Crown”

Invasion – Destroyer of Mankind (Review)

InvasionInvasion are a death metal band from the US. This is their fourth album.

War metal. What is it good for?

Absolutely nothing. (Say it again).

Yes, that’s the level of my humour today I’m afraid… Continue reading “Invasion – Destroyer of Mankind (Review)”

The Ritual Aura – Tæther (Review)

The Ritual AuraThis is The Ritual Aura’s second album. They are an Australian technical death metal band.

Well, hold on to your hat, because you won’t be expecting this.

The Ritual Aura’s 2015 debut album Laniakea was a favourite of mine. At only 26 minutes in length it was a supremely enjoyable blast of cutting-edge death metal. Tæther is, to say the least, a lot more ambitious, lasting over 70 minutes in length. In many ways this seems like a different band altogether. Continue reading “The Ritual Aura – Tæther (Review)”

Interview with Dread Sovereign

Dread Sovererign Logo

Dread Sovereign have returned with their latest album For Doom the Bell Tolls, and it’s quite a corker. Their debut album already showed what an impressive proposition they were, and their latest seals that view. Where Dread Sovereign go, I will follow, for their doom metal is truly the way. Continue reading “Interview with Dread Sovereign”

Dread Sovereign – For Doom the Bell Tolls (Review)

Dread SovereignThis is the second album from Irish doom metal band Dread Sovereign.

2014’s All Hell’s Martyrs was an absolute stormer of an album, and definitely one of my favourites from the doom metal genre. After catching them live at last year’s Damnation Festival, I was very excited to eventually hear some new material from the band. Finally, the wait is over. Continue reading “Dread Sovereign – For Doom the Bell Tolls (Review)”

Axis of Despair – Mankind Crawls (Review)

Axis of DespairAxis of Despair are a Swedish grindcore band. This is their latest EP.

Okay, so I don’t normally do this, but as an introductory description of Mankind Crawls I’m just going to directly lift the promo blurb –

“Axis of Despair features former and present members of such bands as Nasum, Coldworker, Infanticide, Volturyon, Livet som Insats, Nervgift and Overtorture. To be exact: Continue reading “Axis of Despair – Mankind Crawls (Review)”

Combichrist – This Is Where Death Begins (Review)

CombichristThis is the eighth album by Combichrist, a Norwegian/US industrial metal band.

Combichrist are one of those bands that I’ve been aware of since they came out, but I’ve always managed to unintentionally avoid listening to. As this is their eighth album I’m quite late to the Combichrist party, but I’m glad I’ve finally experienced their quite personable brand of industrial metal.
