Northern Crown – In a Pallid Shadow (Review)
Northern Crown are a doom metal band from the US and this is their third album.
Northern Crown’s past material left very positive marks on me, (In the Hands of the Betrayer, The Others), so I turned to In a Pallid Shadow with hopes of an enjoyable romp into doom metal waters. Continue reading “Northern Crown – In a Pallid Shadow (Review)”
Cathartes Aura – Cathartes Aura (Review)
This is the debut album from US doom metal band Cathartes Aura.
This album is available in two different versions; the first is divided into four tracks, while the second is a single 42-minute song. Needles to say, I recommend the latter as the definitive version, but ultimately the music is the same either way. Continue reading “Cathartes Aura – Cathartes Aura (Review)”
Battle Born – Battle Born (Review)
Battle Born are a UK power metal band and this is their debut EP.
Boasting cover art that just screams TRVE METAL at the top of its lungs, Battle Born take their first confident steps into…battle, (ahem), with this 24-minute EP. Continue reading “Battle Born – Battle Born (Review)”
Thecodontion – Supercontinent (Review)
Thecodontion are a black metal band from Italy and this is their debut album.
Having enjoyed by 2018’s demo Thecodontia, and the 2019 follow up EP Jurassic, I was quite excited by the prospect of Thecodontion’s debut album. Continue reading “Thecodontion – Supercontinent (Review)”
Descend – The Deviant (Review)
This is the third album from Swedish death metallers Descend.
Descend give us 49 minutes of progressive death metal on The Deviant. I picked this to listen to on a whim, based purely on the artwork, (which, in the promo, didn’t have the band logo and album title on it; I prefer the logo-less version), and I’m amazed at what I had the good luck to stumble upon. Continue reading “Descend – The Deviant (Review)”
Wren – Groundswells (Review)
Wren are a UK sludge/post-metal band and this is their second album.
2017’s Auburn Rule was a seriously good record. Now that the band have returned, we’re treated to 45 minutes of new material. Continue reading “Wren – Groundswells (Review)”
Tiberius – A Peaceful Annihilation (Review)
This is the debut album from Tiberius, a progressive metal band from the UK.
If you fancy a spot of technical wizardry with your big choruses, and are partial to a bit of Protest the Hero or the more accessible side of Between the Buried and Me, then you might want to check out these Scottish metallers. Continue reading “Tiberius – A Peaceful Annihilation (Review)”
Exocrine – Maelstrom (Review)
This is the fourth album from French death metallers Exocrine.
Here we have a 42-minute blast of technical death metal. Modern in style and feel, with various progressive and melodic elements, Maelstrom makes a good impression. A very, very good impression. Repeated spins only cements this. I enjoyed 2018’s Molten Giant, but this is superior. Continue reading “Exocrine – Maelstrom (Review)”
Fellwarden – Wreathed in Mourncloud (Review)
Fellwarden are a black metal band from the UK, and this is their second album.
Brought to us by members of Fen, Wreathed in Mourncloud delivers 59 minutes of atmospheric black metal with a folk edge. Continue reading “Fellwarden – Wreathed in Mourncloud (Review)”
