Tonight’s sold out show boasts a strong lineup of modern heaviness and extremity. It’s a show I’m very glad I have got to attend. So without further ado… Continue reading “Human Target Tour – Thy Art Is Murder/Carnifex/Fit for an Autopsy/Rivers of Nihil/I Am – Manchester Academy 2, 26/01/20 (Live Review)”

Willows – Coldfront (Review)
Willows are a hardcore band from the US and this is their latest album.
Willows play emotive hardcore that’s on the heavier end of the musical spectrum, offering up 42 minutes of heartfelt energetic substance. Continue reading “Willows – Coldfront (Review)”
Vomit Fist – Omnicide (Review)
Vomit Fist are a grindcore band from the US and this is their latest release.
Here we have 20 minutes of complex, vicious grindcore. This is not your standard grindcore, however, and Vomit Fist have produced something far more atypical and individual than most. Continue reading “Vomit Fist – Omnicide (Review)”
Timeworn – Leave the Soul for Now (Review)
This is the third album from Timeworn, a Norwegian sludge metal band.
This is riff-friendly sludge metal, with both a hardcore influence and an atmospheric one. There’s a mix of the harsh and the beautiful here, which is weighted towards the energetic former, but the latter is still an important part of the band’s sound too. Continue reading “Timeworn – Leave the Soul for Now (Review)”
Chronoboros – The Mass Saw Acres of Chain (Review)
This is the second album Greek post-hardcore/sludge band Chronoboros.
Having enjoyed both Dialing up the Cutter and No Dirt or Silver Will Have Us Sated, we now turn to the latest Chronoboros release, which finds the band in good form as they plough through 35 minutes of angular, unorthodox material. Continue reading “Chronoboros – The Mass Saw Acres of Chain (Review)”
Thicko – The Beginning Is Nigh (Review)
This is the debut release from Thicko, a UK hardcore band.
From the capable hands of Paul Catten and Paul Kenney, (Fukpig, Kroh), The Beginning Is Nigh contains a scant 9 minutes of bludgeoning. Continue reading “Thicko – The Beginning Is Nigh (Review)”
Lambs – Malice (Review)
Lambs are an Italian post-metal/sludge/hardcore band and this is their debut album.
It’s been a while since I last caught up with Lambs, but it seems that time has been good to them. They now operate in more atmospheric waters than they used to, despite a large portion of their sound still being fuelled by rage and hatred. Continue reading “Lambs – Malice (Review)”
Malevich – Our Hollow (Review)
Malevich are a grindcore/sludge metal band from the US and this is their second album.
What foul, twisted mass of ugly heaviness do we have before us here then? I do so enjoy hybrid releases like this, where multiple styles and subgenres are smashed together into an almost unrecognisable whole. On Our Hollow Continue reading “Malevich – Our Hollow (Review)”
Coilguns – Watchwinders (Review)
Coilguns are a hardcore band from Switzerland and this is their third album.
It doesn’t seem that long ago since 2018’s Millennials burst onto the scene, and I suppose it wasn’t, really. However, already Coilguns, (boasting ex-members of The Ocean) are back with a new 41 minutes of unusual hardcore punk, (as well as some rather striking album art). Continue reading “Coilguns – Watchwinders (Review)”
Geist – Swarming Season (Review)
This is the debut album from Geist, a hardcore band from the UK.
Mixing dark hardcore, metal, and crust, this is 26 minutes of near-lightless harshness. Continue reading “Geist – Swarming Season (Review)”
