Marche Funèbre – Einderlicht (Review)

Marche Funèbre - EinderlichtThis is the fourth album from Belgian death/doom metallers Marche Funèbre.

Having been a fan of Eye of Solitude for some time, their split with Marche Funèbre impressed, and made me want to check out the latter band when the opportunity arose. That time is now, and Einderlicht has arrived to carve a space in my collection all of its own. Continue reading “Marche Funèbre – Einderlicht (Review)”

Sulaco – The Privilege (Review)

Sulaco - The PrivilegeThis is the latest EP from Sulaco, a grindcore band from the US.

Considering the band’s traditional extreme length between releases, we’re quite privileged, (ahem), to have The Privilege so soon after The Prize. Continue reading “Sulaco – The Privilege (Review)”

Monthly Overview – the Best of September 2020

There was an unreasonably unreasonable (?) amount of good music to be had in September. So check out the below and let me know your favourite, (it goes without saying you should also be listening to The Ocean and Oceans of Slumber, so I won’t mention those again). Continue reading “Monthly Overview – the Best of September 2020”

Lik – Misanthropic Breed (Review)

Lik - Misanthropic BreedLik are a Swedish death metal band and this is their third album.

Carnation – Where Death Lies (Review)

Carnation - Where Death LiesThis is the second album from Belgian death metallers Carnation.

Having really enjoyed 2018’s Chapel of Abhorrence, it’s with high expectations that I turned to Where Death Lies. It turns out they the band have exceeded these expectations with ease. Continue reading “Carnation – Where Death Lies (Review)”

Void Rot – Descending Pillars (Review)

Void Rot - Descending PillarsThis is the debut album from US death/doom metallers Void Rot.

After enjoying Void Rot’s past work, I’ve been eagerly awaiting Descending Pillars. This is 38 minutes of malevolent death metal that’s been spiked and corrupted by dark doom foulness. Continue reading “Void Rot – Descending Pillars (Review)”

Spectrum of Delusion – Neoconception (Review)

Spectrum of Delusion - NeoconceptionThis is the second album from Spectrum of Delusion, a death metal band from the Netherlands.

Neoconception features 44 minutes of technical/progressive death metal. The promo blurb states that “Neoconception will strongly appeal to fans of groups such as Spawn of Possession, Suffocation, Obscura, Defeated Sanity, The Faceless, Blotted Science, and Nile“. Hard to argue, although I’d also add groups like Gorod, Beyond Creation, and Aronious. Continue reading “Spectrum of Delusion – Neoconception (Review)”

Burial Remains – Spawn of Chaos (Review)

Burial Remains - Spawn of ChaosThis is the second album from Burial Remains, a death metal band from the Netherlands.

2019’s Trinity of Deception was an enjoyable dose of Swedish-influenced death metal. It was brief, (25 minutes), but made its point well. Burial Remains have now returned with its successor quite quickly, with a new collection of groovy Continue reading “Burial Remains – Spawn of Chaos (Review)”

Foretoken – Ruin (Review)

Foretoken - RuinThis is the debut album from US black/death metal band Foretoken.

So, you fancy a good-sized chunk of Scandinavian death metal? That’s no problem, take your pick. What’s that? You also want a decent black metal influence to be felt? That’s easily done. Now you want a take on the style that’s highly melodic too? Sure, Continue reading “Foretoken – Ruin (Review)”
