Mourir – Disgrâce (Review)

Mourir - DisgrâceThis is the second album from Mourir, a black metal band from France.

This is the follow up to 2020’s Animal Bouffe Animal, and delivers 38 minutes of utter blackened darkness. Mourir, (who contain members of Drawers and Plebeian Grandstand), specialise in modern black metal, with unhinged daemonic vocals and more oppressive, malignant atmosphere than a lot of people will be able to handle. Unru – Die Wiederkehr des Verdrängten (Review)

Unru - Die Wiederkehr des VerdrängtenThis is the second album from German black metal band Unru.

Die Wiederkehr des Verdrängten actually saw the light of day back in March, but I’ve been listening to it a lot and I just had to give it the attention it deserves with a review. I’ve enjoyed Unru’s work for a while, (check out the band’s 2014 split with Paramnesia and their 2016 debut album Als Tier ist der Mensch Nichts), but this new one is a different beast. The Unru of 2022 have crafted their most expansive, ambitious, and affecting work yet. Continue reading “Unru – Die Wiederkehr des Verdrängten (Review)”

Imperathron – Mors est Veritas (Review)

Imperathron - Mors est VeritasImperathron are a blackened death metal band from Chile, and this is their debut album.

Mors est Veritas is a 31-minute powerhouse of hostility and blasting heaviness. With a foundation of death metal of the Hate Eternal variety, Imperathron build on this with blackened structures that recall some of Belphegor‘s work. Continue reading “Imperathron – Mors est Veritas (Review)”

Blackbraid - Blackbraid IThis is the debut album from black metal solo act Blackbraid.

The music on Blackbraid I is a form of black metal that takes from the classic and atmospheric styles to create something all of its own. Native American folk influences can also be heard, and these are well-integrated into the music’s Continue reading “Blackbraid – Blackbraid I (Review)”
