Chaos Inception – Vengeance Evangel (Review)

Chaos Inception - Vengeance EvangelThis is the third album from US death metallers Chaos Inception.

Wow, I did not see this coming. 2012’s The Abrogation stood out with its quality, and I’ve periodically wondered over the years if we’d ever see another from Chaos Inception. I had long assumed not, but here it is – unheralded, and unexpected. Can Chaos Inception stand up to scrutiny in 2025? Continue reading “Chaos Inception – Vengeance Evangel (Review)”

Construct of Lethe – A Kindness Dealt in Venom (Review)

Construct of Lethe - A Kindness Dealt in VenomThis is the third album from US death metal band Construct of Lethe.

Construct of Lethe’s last album Exiler came out in 2018, and was a brutal affair of merciless death metal. The band have moved on since then, and A Kindness Dealt in Venom offers up a mix of death and black metal, with touches of doom, and further enriched by electronics, synths, and industrial elements. Its foundation is a death metal one, but it’s not limited to purely this genre. Continue reading “Construct of Lethe – A Kindness Dealt in Venom (Review)”

Benighted – Ekbom (Review)

Benighted - EkbomThis is the tenth album from French death metallers Benighted.

I’ve enjoyed all of my encounters with Benighted so far, (NecrobreedDogs Always Bite Harder than Their MastersObscene Repressed, and live in 2016), so I knew I wanted to check out Ekbom. Running at a lean and mean 37 minutes, Ekbom is here to brutalise and destroy. Continue reading “Benighted – Ekbom (Review)”

Owdwyr – Receptor (Review)

Owdwyr - ReceptorThis is the debut album from US extreme metal band Owdwyr.

Receptor is an interesting beast. Blurring the boundaries between technical death metal, grindcore, and progressive metal, Owdwyr’s music is a riot of violence and exploratory brutality. It’s a 44-minute sophisticated wrecking ball. Continue reading “Owdwyr – Receptor (Review)”

Gutslit – Carnal (Review)

Gutslit - CarnalThis is the third album from Indian death metallers Gutslit.

Oh wow, has it really been six years since the crushing Amputheatre? Apparently so. Nevertheless, Gutslit have finally returned to the death metal killing arenas, armed with 30 minutes of gruesome new material in the spiked, brutal shape of Carnal. Continue reading “Gutslit – Carnal (Review)”

Desecrate the Faith – III (Review)

Desecrate the Faith - IIIThis is the third album from US death metallers Desecrate the Faith.

Despite being on the longer side for brutal death metal, I really enjoyed 2017’s Unholy Infestation, so it’s great to finally have some new material from this savage band. III is a merciless beast that spends 49 minutes defiling and desecrating everything sacred, via ten tracks of skull-shattering brutal death metal. Continue reading “Desecrate the Faith – III (Review)”

Aronious – Irkalla (Review)

Aronious - IrkallaThis is the second album from Aronious, a death metal band from the US.

I listened to and enjoyed 2020’s Perspicacity far more than I expected to, so when Irkalla appeared I was keen to explore it. Two things struck me about the band’s new release before I’d even pressed play – the first was the difference in length, (Irkalla‘s 41 minutes/8 tracks vs Perspicacity‘s 59 minutes/13 tracks), and the second was the significant lineup changes, including a new Continue reading “Aronious – Irkalla (Review)”

Sensory Amusia – Breed Death (Review)

Sensory Amusia - Breed DeathSensory Amusia are an Australian death metal band and this is their second album.

I was impressed by Sensory Amusia’s 2020 EP Bereavement, so I definitely wanted to check out whatever they did next. This turned out to be Breed Death, which scratches my modern death metal itch very nicely indeed. Continue reading “Sensory Amusia – Breed Death (Review)”

Bleedskin – Blood Reign (Review)

Bleedskin - Blood ReignBleedskin are a Belgian death metal band and this is their debut album.

Bleedskin say they’re inspired by bands such as Cannibal Corpse, Abnormality, BehemothDying Fetus, Benighted, and the like, and I’d certainly recommend Blood Reign for fans of these acts. Bleedskin’s songs are well-written, well-produced, and professionally delivered. Continue reading “Bleedskin – Blood Reign (Review)”

Sensory Amusia – Bereavement (Review)

Sensory Amusia - BereavementSensory Amusia are an Australian death metal band and this is their latest EP.

Prepare for 17 minutes of mayhem and carnage! Sensory Amusia play modern death metal smashed together with crushing deathcore and savage grind. The end result is a very engaging slice of ferocity, and is a tasty treat of technical deathgrind bliss. Continue reading “Sensory Amusia – Bereavement (Review)”
