Northern Crown – The Others (Review)

Northern CrownThis is the debut album from US doom metal band Northern Crown.

I thoroughly enjoyed Northern Crown’s first EP In the Hands of the Betrayer, so when their debut album popped up, I was keen to give it a listen.

The band play traditional doom metal with a good smattering of heavy metal throughout, although it should also be noted that they have started to branch out from this, here and there, marking an increased confidence and comfortableness with how they approach their material. Boarstusk – Boarstusk (Review)

BoartuskBoarstusk is a one-man black Metal doom band from the US. This is his debut album.

After an atmospheric electronic intro, we’re introduced to Boarstusk’s brand of doom-infused black metal. This is ancient, unspeakably raw Continue reading “Boarstusk – Boarstusk (Review)”

Keitzer – Ascension (Review)

KeitzerKeitzer are a death metal/grindcore band from Germany and this is their sixth album.

Keitzer’s previous album, The Last Defence,  was one that I particularly enjoyed and have returned to again and again since its release. It was a top display of angry grindcore mixed with death metal rhythm. Ascension picks up where The Last Defence left off, and then goes further down the sonic avenues of extreme metal.

Ascension’s songs are, on average, Continue reading “Keitzer – Ascension (Review)”

Foetal Juice – Masters of Absurdity (Review)

Foetal JuiceFoetal Juice are a UK death metal band and this is their debut album.

This is brutal death metal with a professional, heavy sound. Across 35 minutes the band brutally rape your senses and stab you with frozen shit over and over again.

Does that sound like something you would like? DOES IT? Continue reading “Foetal Juice – Masters of Absurdity (Review)”

Unearthed Elf – Into the Catacomb Abyss (Review)

Unearthed ElfUnearthed Elf is a one man doom/heavy/power metal project from the US. This is his debut album.

Having a sightly unusual mix of doom, heavy and power metal, Into the Catacomb Abyss is an unexpected listen in a few different ways. Continue reading “Unearthed Elf – Into the Catacomb Abyss (Review)”

Octopurath – Spawned Beyond the Oneiric Abyss (Review)

OctopurathOctopurath are a brutal death metal band from France. This is their debut EP.

Featuring members of Eradikal Insane, this is a 15 minute calling card of utter brutality and crushing death metal.

This is dense and heavy, with Continue reading “Octopurath – Spawned Beyond the Oneiric Abyss (Review)”

Khemmis – Hunted (Review)

KhemmisThis is the second album from US doom metal band Khemmis.

Khemmis’ debut album, Absolution, was one of my favourite releases of 2015, and has continued to be a firm-favourite of mine ever since first hearing it.

Continuing on with their style of combining traditional doom metal with sludge metal, the songs on Hunted are a tad longer, allowing the band more room to explore and expand on their core style.

The singer puts in a sterling performance once more. Continue reading “Khemmis – Hunted (Review)”

Wolf’s Hunger – Bež’te Živi, Vraćaju Se Mrtvi (Review)

Wolf's HungerWolf’s Hunger are a Serbian black/thrash metal band. This is their second album.

Despite there actually being a fair few bands out there that play blackened thrash metal in a convincing and enjoyable way, I still always think of myself as someone that’s not a huge fan of mixing the two. I think it’s Continue reading “Wolf’s Hunger – Bež’te Živi, Vraćaju Se Mrtvi (Review)”

Tactus – Bending Light (Review)

TactusTactus are a Canadian progressive metal band and this is their debut album.

Well it soon becomes obvious that this band know a thing or two about how to play their instruments. This is modern progressive heavy metal that has plenty of technicality and a djent influence.

As I always say; Continue reading “Tactus – Bending Light (Review)”
