Polar – Five Arrows (Review)

Polar - Five ArrowsThis is the sixth album by UK hardcore band Polar.

It’s always a pleasure to catch up with Polar. Ever since 2016’s No Cure No Saviour I’ve been a big fan of the band’s hardcore/post-hardcore stylings. This album was followed in 2019 by the heavier Nova, and then in 2023 by Everywhere, Everything, which developed Polar’s more textured post-hardcore side. Now, uncharacteristically fast, we have Five Arrows, which brings us 38 minutes of new material. Continue reading “Polar – Five Arrows (Review)”

Lifesick – Loved by None, Hated by All (Review)

Lifesick - Loved by None, Hated by AllThis is the fourth album by Danish metallic hardcore band LIfesick.

I enjoyed Lifesick when I saw them earlier this year supporting Cabal, so knew I wanted to check out the 34 minutes of Loved by None, Hated by All when it appeared. Continue reading “Lifesick – Loved by None, Hated by All (Review)”

Candy – It’s Inside You (Review)

Candy - It's Inside YouCandy are a hardcore band from the US and this is their third album.

It’s Inside You is the 31-minute follow up to 2022’s Heaven Is Here. On their new record Candy push a vision for hardcore that bursts beyond its typical genre trappings in key places. Continue reading “Candy – It’s Inside You (Review)”

Sect – Plagues upon Plagues (Review)

Sect - Plagues upon PlaguesThis is the fourth album from international metallic hardcore band Sect.

Brought to us by experienced hands in the form of current/ex-members of bands such as Catharsis, Cursed, Earth Crisis, Enabler, Racetraitor, The Damned Things, Undying, and many others, Plagues upon Plagues showcases a leap in Sect’s musical journey when compared to their previous work, (such as 2017’s brutal No Cure for Death). Alpha Wolf – Half Living Things (Review)

Alpha Wolf - Half Living ThingsAlpha Wolf are an Australian metalcore band and this is their third album.

I thoroughly enjoyed 2020’s A Quiet Place to Die, as well as 2022’s split with Holding Absence The Lost & the Longing, so more new material from Alpha Wolf is very well-received. I dislike the album art, but ignoring that, what do Alpha Wolf have in store for us this time around? Continue reading “Alpha Wolf – Half Living Things (Review)”

Mastiff – Deprecipice (Review)

Mastiff - DeprecipiceMastiff are a hardcore/sludge metal band from the UK and this is their fourth album.

Both 2019’s Plague and 2021’s Leave Me the Ashes of the Earth were enjoyable slabs of ugly sludgy hardcore heaviness, so it’s great to have a new Mastiff album in our lives. Deprecipice contains 34 minutes of material, and sees Mastiff stepping up their game once more. Continue reading “Mastiff – Deprecipice (Review)”

Balsam Grove – You’re Safe Here (Review)

Balsam Grove - You're Safe HereThis is the debut album from Balsam Grove, a post-hardcore band from the US.

You’re Safe Here contains 40 minutes of material brought to us by ex-members of Caves of Glass. Whereas that mighty band played a distinct brand of multifaceted post-metal, Balsam Grove’s music is a post-hardcore mix of punk, screamo, and metalcore. Continue reading “Balsam Grove – You’re Safe Here (Review)”

Capra – Errors (Review)

Capra - ErrorsThis is the second album from US metallic hardcore band Capra.

I enjoyed 2021’s In Transmission, and now it’s time to check out what Errors has to offer. Is its title a warning against its content? Continue reading “Capra – Errors (Review)”
