Capra – Errors (Review)

Capra - ErrorsThis is the second album from US metallic hardcore band Capra.

I enjoyed 2021’s In Transmission, and now it’s time to check out what Errors has to offer. Is its title a warning against its content?

No, it’s not.

Taking the strengths of In Transmission and doubling down on them, Capra have returned with 31 minutes of new material to make you move. The band’s metallic hardcore punk is energetic and fiery, and takes no prisoners.

Errors is even more reminiscent of the early 00s hardcore and metalcore scene than In Transmission was, and Capra have succeeded in capturing the fire that bands such as Walls of Jericho, Nora, Most Precious Blood, Every Time I Die, and others, seemed to have so readily. The singer of Walls of Jericho actually appears on this album too, (and sounds great), as does the singer of Glassing.

Raw aggression is mixed with refined songwriting to showcase Capra’s increased sense of song-focused presence. Less chaotic than its predecessor, Errors still has plenty of bite, while also boasting more hooks and catchiness. The songwriting emphasises big guitars and breakdowns, as well as the singer’s infectious vocals. The album is a heavy, raucous, and fun record, despite its dark tones and themes. It ends with the final track showcasing an additional side of Capra; band demonstrate a talent for atmosphere and mood that is absent from the rest of the album.

Capra have returned hard and with force. Errors is a really enjoyable album that is simultaneously a nostalgic trip back a couple of decades, but also a confident foot forward for a skilled and passionate band.

Highly recommended.
