Truth Corroded – Bloodlands (Review)

Truth Corroded - BloodlandsThis is the sixth album from Truth Corroded, an Australian death/thrash metal band.

Truth Corroded serve up over 40 minutes worth of extreme metal on Bloodlands. The band’s style mixes skull-cracking brutality with razor-sharp thrash metal. This is music to simultaneously get smashed up and lacerated by. Continue reading “Truth Corroded – Bloodlands (Review)”

Oozing Wound – High Anxiety (Review)

Bloodthirst – I Am Part of That Power Which Eternally Wills Evil and Eternally Works Wrong (Review)

Bloodthirst - I Am Part of That Power Which Eternally Wills Evil and Eternally Works WrongThis is the fourth album from Polish blackened thrashers Bloodthirst.

Blackened thrash metal frequently disappoints me. I think I just expect more than I get, as the mix of black and thrash metal seems to usually end up lacking the power of either. Bloodthirst are different, however, as both Chalice of Contempt and Glorious Sinners demonstrated to me quite effectively. Forged in Black – Descent of the Serpent (Review)

Forged in Black - Descent of the SerpentForged in Black are a UK heavy metal band and this is their second album.

Featuring 48 minutes of material, Descent of the Serpent is well-crafted heavy metal with wide scope. Some elements of thrash are mixed in, for example. Also, occasionally the songs veer into classic doom metal territories in their more atmospheric moments, or sometimes adopt a power metal stance of epic force. Whatever they do this is pure heavy metal goodness all the way. Continue reading “Forged in Black – Descent of the Serpent (Review)”

Gross Misconduct – Equinox (Review)

Gross Misconduct - EquinoxGross Misconduct are a Canadian death metal band and this is their third album.

This is progressive death metal with a thrash influence. The band describe this album in the following way – “Imagine Cynic with a dollop of Death, a smattering of The Crown/Mastodon/Gojira and healthy doses of 1980s Metallica and Slayer.” I’ve simply regurgitated this here as it’s a better descriptor of how Equinox sounds than anything I could come up with. Sigh – Heir to Despair (Review)

Sigh - Heir to DespairSigh are a Japanese black/avant-garde metal band and this is their eleventh album.

A new Sigh album is always somewhat of an event, and you never really quite know what you’re going to be getting yourself into with it. This latest album follows on after the symphonic blackened offering of 2015’s Graveward, but distances itself from its predecessor quite significantly by giving us 53 minutes of material that’s been influenced by folk and old/obscure progressive rock more than ever before.
