Devourment – Obscene Majesty (Review)

Devourment - Obscene MajestyDevourment are a death metal band from the US and this is their fifth album.

Pathology – Reborn to Kill (Review)

Pathology - Reborn to KillPathology are a US death metal band and this is their tenth album.

Pathology have had a new lineup since 2017’s self titled album, including a guitarist from Condemned and vocalist from Inherit Disease. The songs are short and vicious, and the entire album is done in 33 minutes of grooving heaviness and nasty brutality. Continue reading “Pathology – Reborn to Kill (Review)”

Brand of Sacrifice – God Hand (Review)

Brand of Sacrifice - GodhandThis is the debut album from Canadian death metallers Brand of Sacrifice.

At a lean 26 minutes, God Hand gets in, does its damage, and gets out again. One of the things I like about Brand of Sacrifce, however, is even though their songs tend to be short, the band aren’t afraid to play with the modern death metal formula. Vulvodynia – Mob Justice (Review)

Vulvodynia - Mob JusticeThis is the third album from Vulvodynia, a death metal band from South Africa.

If you haven’t encountered Vulvodynia before, they play brutal slamming death metal, and do it extremely well. Along with a handful of others they’re pretty much at the top of the pile when it comes to this sort of thing. Continue reading “Vulvodynia – Mob Justice (Review)”

Organectomy – Existential Disconnect (Review)

Organectomy - Existential Disconnect

Organectomy are a New Zealand death metal band and this is their second album.

2017’s Domain of the Wretched arrived with a bang, a whirlwind of spine-ripping aggression, and a surprisingly well-rounded offer. Continue reading “Organectomy – Existential Disconnect (Review)”

Ohio Slamboys – Zombie Killing Process (Review)

Ohio Slamboys - Zombie Killing ProcessThis is the debut album from Ohio Slamboys, a brutal death metal band from France.

Now here’s an album that does exactly what it says on the tin. Slamming death metal with a zombie fixation? Why the Hell not! It would be so easy to play this kind of thing badly and end up a generic mess of gore and entrails, but do you know what? This album is just a big old ball of bloody fun. Continue reading “Ohio Slamboys – Zombie Killing Process (Review)”

Mental Cruelty – Inferis (Review)

Mental Cruelty - InferisMental Cruelty are a German deathcore band and this is their second album.

Violently mixing elements of slam and, (more importantly), menacing atmosphere into their deathcore brew, Mental Cruelty offer up 34 minutes of sheer brutality, and belligerent aggression. Continue reading “Mental Cruelty – Inferis (Review)”

Distant – Tyrannotophia (Review)

Distant - TyrannotophiaThis is the debut album from Distant, a deathcore band from the Netherlands.

Tyrannotophia combines underground slam-infused death metal with brutal deathcore. It’s easy to be lazy with this sort of thing and end up with a generic record, but Tyrannotophia is definitely an above-standard release. Continue reading “Distant – Tyrannotophia (Review)”

Within Destruction – Deathwish (Review)

Within Destruction - DeathwishThis is the third album from Slovenian death metal/deathcore band Within Destruction.

Within Destruction’s second album Void was one that made a notable impact. Here we had an album that did deathcore right; blistering death metal extremity coupled with huge slamming deathcore beatdowns, all delivered in a modern package of brutality and carnage. Top stuff.
