Faceless Burial – Speciation (Review)

Faceless Burial - SpeciationThis is the second album from Australian death metal band Faceless Burial.

Speciation contains 38 minutes of classic, old-school death metal. The formula for this sort of music may be tried and tested, but that doesn’t lessen its impact any when it’s done as effectively as it is here. Continue reading “Faceless Burial – Speciation (Review)”

Question – Reflections of the Void (Review)

Question - Reflections of the VoidThis is the second album from Mexican death metallers Question.

I enjoyed both 2014’s Doomed Passages and 2017’s Gnosis Primordial, so now that we have Reflections of the Void, with its new 36 minutes of material, I knew I had to dig in. Continue reading “Question – Reflections of the Void (Review)”

Descend – The Deviant (Review)

Descend - The DeviantThis is the third album from Swedish death metallers Descend.

Descend give us 49 minutes of progressive death metal on The Deviant. I picked this to listen to on a whim, based purely on the artwork, (which, in the promo, didn’t have the band logo and album title on it; I prefer the logo-less version), and I’m amazed at what I had the good luck to stumble upon. Exocrine – Maelstrom (Review)

Here we have a 42-minute blast of technical death metal. Modern in style and feel, with various progressive and melodic elements, Maelstrom makes a good impression. A very, very good impression. Repeated spins only cements this. I enjoyed 2018’s Molten Giant, but this is superior. Continue reading “Exocrine – Maelstrom (Review)”

Akurion – Come Forth to Me (Review)

Akurion - Come Forth to MeThis is the debut album from Canadian death metallers Akurion.

Well, what a wealth of talent and experience we have in this band. The core of Akurion is comprised of current and ex-members of Cattle Decapitation, Coma Cluster Void, Cryptopsy, and Neuraxis, (and others), and rounded out with a variety of Continue reading “Akurion – Come Forth to Me (Review)”
