Teeth – The Will of Hate (Review)

Teeth - The Will of HateTeeth are a death metal/grindcore band from the US, and this is their third album.

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed watching Teeth develop, from their split with Fister and also with Barghest, to last full length The Curse of Entropy in 2019. The Will of Hate is the band’s longest release yet, clocking in at 39 minutes of pure punishing extremity. Nails – Every Bridge Burning (Review)

Nails - Every Bridge BurningThis is the third album from Nails, a grindcore band from the US.

There are a fair few albums being released in 2024 that are hotly anticipated, including some from bands that haven’t released anything for a while. For me, near the top of that list is Every Bridge Burning by Nails. 2016’s You Will Never Be One of Us was a grindcore/powerviolence/hardcore monster, so this new record has a lot to live up to. Concrete Winds – Concrete Winds (Review)

Concrete Winds - Concrete WindsThis is the third album from Finnish death metallers Concrete Winds.

Concrete Winds is a 25-minute monstrosity that bleeds violence from every infected pore. It’s abrasive and hateful, yet carries with it more depth and substance than you’d probably expect; Concrete Winds seem to know what they’re doing. Continue reading “Concrete Winds – Concrete Winds (Review)”

Feind – Ambulante Hirnamputation (Review)

Feind - Ambulante HirnamputationThis is the debut album from German grindcore band Feind.

I often think of grindcore as one of my favourite genres, yet it’s one that I rarely get to encounter quality new bands. This is why, when I become aware of something like Ambulante Hirnamputation, I had to make sure I didn’t miss out on it. It’s 17 tracks, with a duration of only 13 minutes, and it absolutely rips the opposition to shreds. Continue reading “Feind – Ambulante Hirnamputation (Review)”

Gun Girl – Vengeant Siege of Unholy Divinity (Review)

Gun Girl - Vengeant Siege of Unholy DivinityThis is the debut album from US one-woman black/death metal band Gun Girl.

What’s this? Another project by the same artist that brought us the amazing Lust Hag? Sign me up! Vengeant Siege of Unholy Divinity is 24 minutes of ugliness and mayhem. It’s harsh and unforgiving, and just wants to destroy. Continue reading “Gun Girl – Vengeant Siege of Unholy Divinity (Review)”

Pestilent Death – Pathways to Infinite Malignity (Review)

Pestilent Death - Pathways to Infinite MalignityPestilent Death are a death metal band from the US and this is their latest EP.

It’s been a while since the putrid death metal assault of 2019’s Chapters of Depravity, but now Pestilent Death have waded into the fray once more. This is primal underground death metal, in all of its disgusting glory. Continue reading “Pestilent Death – Pathways to Infinite Malignity (Review)”

Apes – Penitence (Review)

Apes - PenitenceApes are a grindcore band from Canada and this is their debut album.

I thoroughly enjoyed 2017’s Lightless, with its hybrid blackened sludge/grind assault. It wasn’t until 2022 that we saw new material though, with the EP Lullabies for Eternal Sleep. Thankfully we haven’t had to wait quite as long for Apes’ second album, Penitence. Continue reading “Apes – Penitence (Review)”

Beaten to Death – Sunrise over Rigor Mortis (Review)

Beaten to Death - Sunrise over Rigor MortisBeaten to Death are a Norwegian grindcore band and this is their sixth album.

Beaten to Death are a well-regarded grindcore band that I’ve never listened to before now, but I’ve heard good things about for years. Branded as progressive/melodic grindcore, and stated as suitable for fans of Fuck the Facts, Gridlink, and Discordance Axis by the promo blurb, I knew I had to check this out. Continue reading “Beaten to Death – Sunrise over Rigor Mortis (Review)”

Primitive Warfare – Extinction Protocol (Review)

Primitive Warfare - Extinction ProtocolThis is the debut album from US black/death metallers Primitive Warfare.

Extinction Protocol brims with 31 minutes of violent war metal aggression. Primitive Warfare are here to force the horrors of war right into your face, through your skull, and out the other side. Continue reading “Primitive Warfare – Extinction Protocol (Review)”

Sulaco – Black Cloud (Review)

Sulaco - Black CloudThis is the latest EP from US deathgrinders Sulaco.

I’ve enjoyed following Sulaco over the years – 2011’s Build & Burn, 2018’s The Prize, and 2020’s The Privilege – so Black Cloud is most welcome here at Wonderbox Metal. Containing two songs, and with a duration of 8 minutes, there may not be much material here, but this is about quality, not quantity. Continue reading “Sulaco – Black Cloud (Review)”
