Civerous – Maze Envy (Review)

Civerous - Maze EnvyThis is the second album from US death metallers Civerous.

We last met Civerous on their 2020 split with Stygian Obsession, so it’s great to be able to hear a full album from them. Hamferð – Men Guðs Hond er Sterk (Review)

Hamferð - Men Guðs Hond er SterkThis is the third album from death/doom band Hamferð, who are from the Faroe Islands.

2018’s Támsins Likam is a tough album to follow. A long six years later, can Hamferð’s newest release – the 44-minute Men Guðs Hond er Sterk – match up to just how good its predecessor is? Continue reading “Hamferð – Men Guðs Hond er Sterk (Review)”

Slimelord – Chytridiomycosis Relinquished (Review)

Slimelord - Chytridiomycosis RelinquishedThis is the debut album from UK death/doom metal band Slimelord.

Chytridiomycosis Relinquished comes to us from current/ex-members of Cryptic Shift and Horrified, which should bode well for Slimelord. This coupled with the promo stating that this is for fans of Disembowelment, Immolation, Gojira, Morbid Angel, Voidceremony, Tomb Mold, Edge of
Sanity, and Morbus Chron, made me quite intrigued to check out Chytridiomycosis Relinquished, as that’s quite the mix. Continue reading “Slimelord – Chytridiomycosis Relinquished (Review)”

Guiltless – Thorns (Review)

Guiltless - ThornsThis is the debut EP from US doom band Guiltless.

What do we have here then? A new band featuring members of Intronaut, Generation of Vipers, A Storm of Light, IIVII, and Battle of Mice? How supremely enticing. Thorns contains 24 minutes of music, and showcases Guiltless’ brand of nihilistic darkness well. Continue reading “Guiltless – Thorns (Review)”

Ponte del Diavolo – Fire Blades from the Tomb (Review)

Ponte del Diavolo - Fire Blades from the TombThis is the debut album from Italian blackened doom metal band Ponte del Diavolo.

Okay, so here we have something quite interesting. When the promo blurb mentions both Electric Wizard and Darkthrone, you know it’s one to take an interest in. I will say that this doesn’t fully cover what you’ll find on Fire Blades from the Tomb though, so I’ll also mention here bands such as Messa, King Woman, Vanishing Kids, and Siouxsie and the Banshees, to give a broader impression. Continue reading “Ponte del Diavolo – Fire Blades from the Tomb (Review)”

Spectral Voice – Sparagmos (Review)

Spectral Voice - SparagmosThis is the second album from US death/doom band Spectral Voice.

Featuring members of Black Curse and Blood Incantation, Spectral Voice play the sort of humungous death doom that crushes mountains and destroys villages. Sparagmos boasts 46 minutes of material that’s as distressing as it is rewarding. Continue reading “Spectral Voice – Sparagmos (Review)”

Boarhammer – II: Chemognosis – A Shortcut to Mushrooms (Review)

Boarhammer - II Chemognosis – A Shortcut to MushroomsBoarhammer are a German black metal band and this is their debut album.

II: Chemognosis – A Shortcut to Mushrooms contains 45 minutes, (with the bonus track), of old-school black metal. So old-school in fact, that it’s a blend of first and second wave influences, rather than the latter only. Boarhammer channel the spirits of Darkthrone, Venom, Celtic Frost, and Bathory, and they do so rather well. Continue reading “Boarhammer – II: Chemognosis – A Shortcut to Mushrooms (Review)”
